Several people were killed in a shooting at a Copenhagen shopping centre, say Danish police. It happened late on Sunday afternoon at the Field’s mall, which is close to the city's airport. A 22-year-old suspect was later detained by police. Copenhagen Mayor Sophie H. Andersen tweeted: “Terrible reports of shooting in Fields. Who is Leonna Hale? Police shooting of Missouri woman sparks controversy
Leonna Hale, a 26-year-old Black woman shot by Kansas City police on May 27 in a case that drew national attention, was released from a Jackson County jail after posting bail on June 3. The shooting sparked controversy after a witness told the Kansas City Star that Hale told officers she was pregnant, had her hands up and posed no threat before being shot multiple times in the parking lot of a Family Dollar store. Body camera footage didn't match up with the witness account, as Hale exhibited a firearm and resisted arrest, the local paper later reported. The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) said the shooting occurred as officers with the Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) attempted to arrest the occupants of a car in connection with a reported armed carjacking. The officers had spotted a vehicle matching the description of a stolen vehicle at the Family Dollar at Prospect and East 6th Avenues, the MSHP said on Twitter . As officers attempted to make contact with … [Read more...] about Who is Leonna Hale? Police shooting of Missouri woman sparks controversy

Body cam footage release in Jayland Walker case evokes protest, outrage
Protests and calls for justice followed the Sunday release of body camera footage that showed police officers fatally shooting Jayland Walker, a 25-year-old unarmed Black man. Last Monday, officers in Akron, Ohio, tried to stop Walker's car for unspecified traffic violations, but a chase ensued when he did not pull over, the Akron Police Department said in a statement last week. Police said officers "reported a firearm being discharged from the suspect vehicle." After several minutes, Walker allegedly fled the moving vehicle and police continued to chase him on foot. "Actions by the suspect caused the officers to perceive he posed a deadly threat to them," which made them discharge their firearms, fatally shooting Walker, according to the statement. However, during a press conference on Sunday, authorities announced that Walker was unarmed at the time of the shooting, making him the latest unarmed Black man to be fatally shot by police in the United States. Remembering WWII Medal of Honor recipient Hershel “Woody” Williams
"Hero" is a word used perhaps a little too often these days. He grew up on a farm in West Virginia during the Great Depression. "There were 11 born to my family," he said. "Only five of us survived to adulthood." After Pearl Harbor , he tried to enlist in the Marines, but was rejected as too short.
