They are keen to display their gravitas as soon as the film company logo disappears from the screen. Many films are made and come to the screen with a definite air of importance about them. They deal with heavyweight subjects in a sombre matter – heavyweight actors scowl and furrow their brows … [Read more...] about An Alternative Guide to Great Movies: My Cousin Vinny (1992)

Brit actor Tamer Hassan broke his vow of silence coming to blows with tough-nut Vinnie Jones last year, saying it was time for people to know the truth. Tamer who appeared in Layer Cake with Daniel Craig, and The Calcium Kid with Orlando Bloom, spilt the beans when he came to dine in Stoke Newington High Street’s Thai restaurant Yum Yum last week. The 43-year-old Turkish-Cypriot said: “I’ve been offered thousands for the exclusive on the Vinnie scenario, but I am not interested. That’s not the man I am.” The former amateur-boxer said the brawl, in LA’s Sunset Boulevard hotel Chateau Marmont, was “an unfortunate misunderstanding,” and that he and Vinnie made up on the set of Blood … [Read more...] about Layer Cake actor Tamer Hassan breaks silence on Vinnie Jones fight

IN PICTURES: THAT LEE CHAPMAN GOAL THAT EARNED LEEDS PROMOTION 0 Have your say It’s an image far removed from his hardman persona. Vinnie Jones posed for this photo for your Yorkshire Evening Post back in May 1990 ahead of the final league game of a clash against Bournemouth on the south coast. The idea behind the photocall was to promote fans entering into a sense of occasion by donning fancy dress for the last away match of the season.Sadly serious violence marred what should have been a wholly proud day in the club’s history. It was a day when a Lee Chapman booked a return to Division One for Howard Wilkinson’s Whites, but that 1-0 victory at Dean Court was hardly the only talking point.Thousands upon thousands of Leeds fans headed to Dorset during that infamous Bank Holiday weekend. The pictures that will put a smile on the face of every Leeds United fanVenues included Roundhay’s Astoria Ballroom, the Colosseum on Cookridge Street, Leeds … [Read more...] about Why was Leeds United cult hero Vinnie Jones wearing a dress?
Instructions from the touchline were audible; you could discern individual cheers and groans from the main stand. There was one other noteworthy difference. Amid the nerve-shredding crescendo of last September, Diarmuid Connolly - contrary to his firebrand stereotype - was an oasis of sure-footed calm and clinical composure. Whereas yesterday evening, as his beloved St Vincent’s made routine work of dismantling Skerries Harps (5-18 to 1-9) in Donnycarney, Connolly was nowhere to be seen. Listed at No 11 in the match programme but absent from the team, his place filled by Lorcan Smyth, wearing No 30. And that is unusual. Almost unprecedented. Connolly has skippered Vincent’s to the last two Dublin SFC titles as well as to the 2016 Leinster club summit. He is Marino to the core. He rarely if ever misses a championship outing for his club – even for the hurlers once the inter-county season wraps up. But while the 30-year-old’s ongoing “rest” from … [Read more...] about Will we see Diarmuid Connolly in blue this summer? Mystery over his absence deepened last night
