But the Victoria's Secret model was back to business on Thursday as she attended the PUMA x Balmain launch party in Los Angeles. Lingerie brand Victoria's Secret has cancelled its annual fashion show amid dwindling television ratings and rising criticism of the event.The show launched in 1995 and was once a major pop culture event, drawing millions of viewers each year. Last year it had its lowest ratings ever and drew criticism that it was sexist, outdated and lacked diversity. The brand's parent company L Brands said it was important to "evolve" its marketing strategy. "We're figuring out how to advance the positioning of the brand and best communicate that to customers," Stuart Burgdoerfer, L Brands chief financial officer, told investors on an earnings call. Nevertheless, he said the shows were "an important aspect of the brand and a remarkable marketing achievement". The head of Victoria's Secret has told investors he is "embarrassed" by his long friendship with the late US financier Jeffrey Epstein. The remarks were the latest effort by L Brands boss Les Wexner to distance himself from Mr Epstein, who died in prison while awaiting trial for sex trafficking charges in August.Mr Wexner employed Mr Epstein as a close adviser, but cut ties in 2007.He has previously accused Mr Epstein of misappropriating money. Victoria's Secret is bringing down the curtain on its fashion show after 24 years, its parent company has said.The annual event, which used to be watched by millions of viewers each year, had been criticised over an alleged lack of diversity at the same time as ratings began to fall.The 2018 show attracted the lowest audience since its launch in 1995 and was once a major pop culture event.However, it appeared to be increasingly out of step with the changing world in recent years and critics said it was sexist and outdated.The show suffered a backlash last year after Ed Razek, then chief marketing officer at parent company L Brands, suggested in an interview that a "transsexual" model should not be part of the event because "the show is a fantasy".
