Cristiano Ronaldo is not keen on a move to Chelsea and would rather move abroad if he gets his wish of leaving Manchester United . The 37-year-old has informed United that he would like to leave the club if a suitable offer comes in, with Ronaldo keen to play in the Champions League in what is the twilight of his career. The Portugal captain retains huge respect for United and he stopped short of handing in a transfer request, preferring instead to urge the club to consider offers for him. One of the most interested parties is Chelsea, with co-owner Todd Boehly holding talks with Jorge Mendes about Ronaldo’s availability this week. Such a move would be controversial as though United supporters are largely sympathetic to Ronaldo’s wishes, joining a Premier League rival would threaten his legacy. Andy Burnham: Striking air and rail workers have my support
Andy Burnham on Sunday voiced support for striking air and rail workers in a break from the Labour Party’s national position. The Greater Manchester mayor accused the Government of “demonising” workers amid a series of high-profile disputes, which saw RMT railway union workers walk out last month while British Airways staff are also planning industrial action. Sir Keir Starmer’s party took a nuanced position on the rail strikes , urging negotiations but stopping short of condemning the strikes outright. “They would say, the unions say themselves, that nobody wants to see strikes,” Mr Burnham said. “But when you're faced with a Government that is sitting on its hands and doing nothing then strikes become inevitable. “And I’m putting to you we don’t want to see that, it requires people getting around the table and sorting this out. “I support the rail workers, I support the BA staff, in that they have got to do what they need to do to protect their incomes.” He said … [Read more...] about Andy Burnham: Striking air and rail workers have my support

Boy, 14, arrested after woman raped in nightclub toilet
A 14-year-old boy has been arrested after a woman was raped in a nightclub toilet – with security staff accused of leaving the victim inside a cubicle with her attacker. It’s believed the woman and her friends were approached by a teenager offering to sell them drugs at the Bloom club in Manchester in the early hours of Wednesday morning. He entered the male toilets with her and allegedly sexually assaulted her at around 4.15am. A member of security staff went into the toilets and knocked on the cubicle door at one point, a Manchester City Council licensing hearing was told on Friday. He is said to have realised there were two people inside, but allowed them to remain in there together and left. PC Hammersley said: ‘I don’t think anything was said to him specifically about what was going on, but obviously, it wouldn’t be good practice for security to allow two people to remain in a toilet cubicle together without carrying out checks.’ Around 20 minutes after … [Read more...] about Boy, 14, arrested after woman raped in nightclub toilet
