Record numbers of Albanians claiming to be victims of slavery ‘to avoid deportation’
Albanians are exploiting modern slavery laws to avoid deportation after crossing the Channel, government sources have suggested, as figures showed record numbers are claiming to be victims of trafficking. Official data, published on Thursday, shows Albanians are now the top nationality claiming to be victims of modern slavery or trafficking, overtaking UK nationals. They accounted for more than a quarter (27 per cent) of the record 4,171 potential victims of modern slavery referred to the Home Office, under legislation brought in by Theresa May, in the second quarter of this year. The 1,130 Albanians claiming to be victims of trafficking or slavery are now ahead of UK nationals referred to the Home Office, at 1,013 or 24 per cent of the total. Third were Eritreans, substantially lower at 293 or seven per cent. The figures come just days after it emerged that Albanians accounted for nearly four in 10 migrants crossing the Channel over a six-month period this summer even … [Read more...] about Record numbers of Albanians claiming to be victims of slavery ‘to avoid deportation’
Famed Producer Scott Rudin Accused Of Bullying, Abuse: ‘Every Day Was Exhausting And Horrific’ | The Daily Wire
Academy Award-winning producer Scott Rudin (“The Social Network,” “No Country for Old Men”) has a reputation for allegedly abusing people in the workplace. In a lengthy expose in The Hollywood Reporter (THR), several of Rudin’s former staffers alleged that the producer, who already had a reputation for being hot-tempered, would regularly engage in verbally and physically abusive behavior in the office. One particularly nasty incident involved him allegedly smashing an Apple computer over an assistant’s hand, sending him to the emergency room. “At about 4:15 p.m. — more than 10 hours into a typical Rudin day that began at 6 and never wrapped before 8 — the Oscar-winning producer was enraged that one of his assistants failed to get him a seat on a sold-out flight,” reported THR. “In a fit of fury, he allegedly smashed an Apple computer monitor on the assistant’s hand. Armie Hammer cannibalism, abuse allegations resurface ahead of documentary
Armie Hammer's life as a Hollywood star came crashing down amidst a flood of accusations involving sexual misconduct, possible cannibalism and other unseemly acts in early 2021. On Wednesday, talk about those allegations returned after Discovery+ released its first trailer for an upcoming documentary that features Hammer's accusers. The three-part House of Hammer docuseries promises to not only cover claims made against Hammer by some of the women who've accused him of sexual assault, but the project will also touch on the alleged history of abuse within his family. Hammer's troubles first began in the summer of 2020 when his wife, Elizabeth Chambers, announced on Instagram they would be divorcing after 10 years of marriage. The separation seemed amicable at first, but by January 2021, the first tales of abuse hit the news when a woman with an anonymous Instagram account claimed she had recently been involved in a years-long affair with the Call Me By Your Name actor. … [Read more...] about Armie Hammer cannibalism, abuse allegations resurface ahead of documentary
Christchurch terror attack: Jacinda Ardern says Government can’t expand ACC cover for traumatised victims
JOHN KIRK-ANDERSON/STUFF Temel Atacocugu, mosque attack survivor, says the physical and psychological recovery will take a long time. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says she can’t expand access to cover all those traumatised at the March 15 terror attacks without expanding access more widely. Currently ACC covers those with direct physical injuries but not those with mental health injuries that are not work-related or the result of sexual abuse. That means those who were traumatised at either of the Christchurch mosques two years ago where a terrorist killed 51 Muslim worshippers, are not eligible for direct payments for mental health trauma. Ardern was pushed on why there wasn't more support for victims by John Campbell on TVNZ’s Breakfast. Alex Jones ordered to pay $45,200,000 more to Sandy Hook shooting victim’s family
A jury has ordered conspiracy theorist Alex Jones to pay over $45million in punitive damages to the parents of a Sandy Hook school shooting victim after claiming for years that the tragedy was a ‘hoax’. The $45million sum comes one day after the same jury ordered Jones to pay $4million to Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis, the parents of 6-year-old victim Jesse Lewis. Jones is scheduled to be back in court next week in Connecticut, where juries will have to decide how much he will have to pay two more families of victims from the 2012 tragedy. Heslin and Lewis originally sought $150million for Jones’ lies, which they argued lead to years of harassment, threats and abuse from Jones’ fans. When he testified on Tuesday, Heslin told the court that one disgruntled fan shot at his home. ‘Two years back, my home was shot up, and my vehicle was shot up in my yard. That’s disturbing,’ Heslin said. ‘He drove by my home shouting out the window “Alex Jones!” and what sounded … [Read more...] about Alex Jones ordered to pay $45,200,000 more to Sandy Hook shooting victim’s family
Can a 10-year-old really be a criminal? Advocates call for law change
An increasing chorus of experts, advocates and watchdogs are calling on the Government to raise the age of criminal responsibility from 10 to at least 14. Last month, the Children’s Commissioner Judge Frances Eivers and Disability Rights Commissioner Paula Tesoriero wrote a joint letter to Parliament’s Justice Select Committee , in support of raising the age to at least 14, but preferably 15 or 16.
