JAMIE Oliver’s wife has revealed she’s trying to get pregnant at 43. Mum-of-five Jools made the confession despite chef Jamie insisting they’d have no more kids after their last was born. Jamie, 43, said he was considering a vasectomy after son River Rocket arrived last year. But now Jools says she wants to be pregnant before her next birthday in November. She said: “It would be nice to get it in quick, before I’m 44. "You don’t know if it’s going to happen if not. After 44 I think I’m getting a bit too old. The powers that be had a duty of care to look after the Limerick mother when a smear test failed to pick up the initial signs of cervical cancer. Three years after her test, she was finally diagnosed with the illness. But it took another three years before anybody took the trouble to tell her that her test had shown a false negative. As she put it herself, keeping the information from her was an "appalling breach of trust". As if her struggle with cancer, which is now terminal, was not tough enough, Vicky had to go to the courts - and face the might of the State - to seek redress. And like all too many women in the recent past, it could be argued that she was treated like an enemy of the State, rather than as a citizen deserving compassion and respect. She had to find the funds herself for the expensive cancer drugs that she is taking as part of a clinical trial. They cost €8,500 per dose. But no matter how terrified she is, Vicki Palmer is determined to overcome her fears in order to help a charity that has provided a lifeline to her brother. “Matthew has been going to The Point in Chichester for more than ten years and without it he would have no social life at all,” explained Vicki. “There is very little support for adult services like The Point, which also provides a break for full-time carers like my mum.” A centre for severely physically disabled adults that serves a wide area of Sussex and Hampshire, most of The Point’s members have cerebral palsy, but some have multiple sclerosis or a disability as a result of a traffic accident.
