The boss of public health in Kent has warned there is no evidence vaping is a better long-term alternative to smoking.Andrew Scott-Clark said vaping is "absolutely supported" as a way of quitting tobacco, but not as a replacement.He told the health reform and public health cabinet committee: "The evidence from Public Health England shows the e-cigarettes are safe when it is associated with a quit attempt to get people from smoking to quitting."There is no evidence at the moment at in the long term e-cigarettes are safe."The NHS Stop Smoking service will absolutely support the use of vaping as part of a quit attempt as in the short term it is absolutely safe and much safer than smoking tobacco."But we can't guarantee the safety in the long term so we are not advocating that everyone who smokes switches to long term vaping."Despite fears young people will pick up a nicotine addiction from vaping, evidence suggests a new generation of smokers has not been introduced to the drug.Mr … [Read more...] about Vaping ‘not long-term alternative to smoking’
Burnley magistrates granted police an extension on the closure order of a town centre vaping shop. Trading Standards officers and the Burnley Police neighbourhood team executed a visit to the Smoke N Vape shop in Parker Lane last Thursday and their search revealed cash and what is believed to be "psychoactive" drugs on the premises.An immediate closure order was put in place on the premises under section 76 and 77 of the Anti Social Behaviour Act, 2014.The visit, which took place at around 5pm, came following allegations the store was selling illegal highs.Following the store's search officers said they found evidence to support the allegations and placed an immediate closure order on the town centre premises.The police's findings were brought before Burnley Magistrates Court on Friday afternoon to seek the permanent closure Police and representatives of Burnley Council attended the hearing and the Bench granted an extra seven days to the closure order. One of Britain’s biggest producers of vaping liquids is bidding to cash in on the boom by listing on the stock market. Supreme Imports, based in Stretford, is planning to float on Aim, the London Stock Exchange’s junior market, in May, and is expected to be valued at £150m. The business owns the KIk and Vape88 brands and sells batteries and lightbulbs to retailers including Asda, Costcutter, Halfords and Aldi. It makes 3m bottles of e-liquid every month and sells hardware kits and vaping accessories. Supreme is owned by managing director Sandy Chadha. A new vape shop is opening in Plymouth on Monday- but it's not like all the rest. South West Vape Distribution (SWVD) is the newest store to open on Mutley Plain, and now the ninth vape shop to open in the city. However, SWVD will stay open later than any other during the week to cater for a wider market. SWVD also have a store in Exeter and say they have the "biggest range of E-liquid and the best prices in the South West". The store will open its doors at 10am today and are open Monday to Friday from 10am to 8pm. A spokesperson for the store said: "No other vape store opens until 8pm, giving everyone who has finished work a chance to come and see us. "We have tea and coffee in store for customers who want to have a browse and a look around for a bit. "We also have four tester bays holding 50 flavours in each bay, so everyone can try the flavours and pick one perfect for them.
