Over half of those who overspent also used savings that was set aside for something else. Meanwhile, 35 per cent were left without a rainy-day fund after buying a used car, according to new research by AA Cars. Car owners facing £130 fine if their PASSENGER throws litter
CAR owners who allow passengers to hurl rubbish out of windows will face £130 fines if caught in Stockton . New laws kicking in at the start of October will mean registered keepers of vehicles will have to foot the bill - regardless of whether or not it was them who committed the offence. Members of Stockton Council agreed to increase the fine earlier in the year on the back of a law change pushed through by central Government. This shift allowed authorities to fine people up to £150. Cllr Steve Nelson, cabinet member for access and community safety, said roads and highways in the borough were often “marred by unsightly litter”. “This anti-social behaviour also puts the lives of cleansing operatives at risk when sent to clear up after litter louts at the roadside,” he added. “This new use of more stringent regulations gives our officers more power as it removes the need to identify precisely who threw the litter before we can take enforcement … [Read more...] about Car owners facing £130 fine if their PASSENGER throws litter
Buying a used car this weekend could get you fined warns RAC
Are you thinking of buying a second-hand car this weekend? You might consider postponing it when you've read this advice from the RAC. According to the RAC , you could be slapped with a fine of up to £1,000 if you buy a used car this weekend. That's because the DVLA website will be down for maintenance work until 6am on Monday 20 August. It means you won't be able to tax your purchase straight away which means you could end up driving illegally without tax. Car tax is non-transferable and relates to the vehicle owner rather than the car itself. So if you're buying a used car you will need to tax it before you can drive it away. As a result, prospective buyers will need to postpone their purchase or buy a month of tax before paying for their new used car. Motorists caught driving without tax face a fine of £80, which can be reduced to £40 if paid within 28 days. Failure could result in a court summons and a fine of up to £1,000. The rule, which came into force in … [Read more...] about Buying a used car this weekend could get you fined warns RAC

Wednesday’s papers: Used cars from Sweden, Tango king’s court day and American päntsdrunk
Business daily Kauppalehti reports that a record number of used cars will be imported to Finland this year. AUT, an automotive research group, estimates that 37,000 vehicles will be shipped to Finland this year, about 8,000 more than in 2017. The significant growth has been driven by the beneficial exchange rate between the euro and Swedish krona, AUT says. “About a half of the used cars imported this year come from Sweden,” says Hanna Kalenoja from AUT. “What’s more, there’s currently an oversupply of used cars in Sweden as the sales of new vehicles have risen considerably there over the past few years.” Swedes have been buying new cars in large numbers, with 380,000 new automobiles registered in the country last year, over three times more than Finland’s 119,000, Kauppalehti reports. Finns also have a similar taste in cars as their western neighbours, with brands such as Volvo, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz and BMW popular in both countries. … [Read more...] about Wednesday’s papers: Used cars from Sweden, Tango king’s court day and American päntsdrunk
