There are three basic principals: Make it hard to turn down - You need a reason to not be in the office/at work for a set period of time. One that you boss would struggle to deny you. Make it boring - Follow-up questions are the worst. The best reasons are things that no one wants to ask about afterwards. Energy companies, the Environment Agency and the Bank of England have been named among the best for offering staff a decent work-life balance, a study shows. Research by jobs site Glassdoor found that energy management consultancy Northern Gas & Power was the highest-rated firm, according to comments from employees. One Gateshead-based worker said: "Working at NGP has given me the opportunity to begin a fantastic career in a discipline I'm really passionate about. "In addition to giving me a high level of autonomy and a good level of mentoring, they also allow me the chance to grow and progress in my role." Anglian Water has been rated Britain's best place to work in a new poll on job satisfaction, pay and career progression. Jobs site Glassdoor drew up a table of the best firms to join in 2019, following anonymous feedback from staff who work - or have previously been employed - by one of the 830,000 companies listed on the site. The winners all offered flexible working, a relaxed, friendly atmosphere and investment in training. Employees said of Anglian: "The workforce is clearly proud, passionate and really cares about the work they do, which results in a really positive culture and working environment. "A company truly dedicated to putting customers at the heart of everything it does, with a strong focus on employee engagement."
