Calls for Film Commission board chairperson to quit amid stalled conflict probe
RNZ Film Commission boss David Strong has been in the job for nearly six months now, and has presided over both triumphs and setbacks in that time. (Audio first aired February 2022). A stalled conflict of interest review at the Film Commission – after a script written by its boss was approved for NZ On Air funding – has prompted calls for the board chairperson to quit. Taranaki Airs becoming the feel-good story of NBL after brilliant weekend wins
The Taranaki Airs are having their best season in years with finals basketball within touching distance. Traditionally a cellar-dweller, the Airs have been vastly improved in 2022 in what has been one of the most even National Basketball League (NBL) seasons in record. Taranaki showed again why they mean business, knocking over the top of the table Nelson Giants 85-75 on their home court on Saturday, then beating the defending champion Wellington Saints 111-105 on Sunday in the capital. The Airs' memorable win over Wellington could prove the death knell in the Saints' top six finals hopes. Wellington, 12-time NBL champions, slump to 4-8 and will need to win almost all their remaining games to avoid missing the finals for the first time since 2007. Harry Potter parody show flies in to Christchurch after Covid-19 delays
A Harry Potter parody show that packs all seven books into 70 minutes – including a Quidditch game – has finally landed in Christchurch after being delayed by Covid-19. Potted Potter, starring Tama Jarman and Adam Brown, was originally scheduled to open at The Court Theatre in September, but was postponed after the Covid-19 alert levels were raised . Resident director Lizzie Tollemache said a season of the show at the Centrepoint Theatre in Palmerston North was interrupted by the first lockdown, then an Australian tour had to be cut short when the trans-Tasman travel bubble closed last year . She said the show, which was created by British performers Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner in 2006 and has since toured the world, had to be adapted in response to new pandemic rules.
