The controversial publisher of the smash-hit Call of Duty video game series is being bought by Microsoft in a record $69bn (£51bn) deal. Activision Blizzard is being snapped up in an all-cash takeover that will hand almost $400m to its chief executive, Bobby Kotick. He has been accused of presiding over a culture of sexual harassment and misconduct claims and once threatened to have an assistant killed. The deal is the biggest struck by Microsoft and will transform the Xbox console maker into the world's third-largest games company, amid a scramble to dominate virtual reality worlds such as Facebook's Metaverse. Activision shares rose more than a quarter to almost $82, prompting a rally of video game stocks on the London market as investors bet that the takeover would put British companies in the crosshairs of overseas rivals seeking to bolster their roster of titles. Zoo Tycoon and Elite Dangerous producer Frontier Developments climbed 5pc. It marks one of the biggest deals … [Read more...] about Activision Blizzard boss scores $400m payday after Microsoft pounces on Call of Duty maker
There’s no rule that says a prime minister has to resign for knowingly misleading a news reporter in a broadcast clip. However, Boris Johnson evidently felt that he could not repeat the risible garbage he had told Sky News on Tuesday at Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday . On Tuesday, he had spent almost 20 full minutes saying, with as much sincerity as he could conjure, that nobody had told him the party happening in his garden – which he attended for 25 minutes – was against the Covid regulations. This has already been laughed at, many times over, and there is absolutely no reason not to do so again. It really is a point of fact that the actual prime minister is continuing to claim that he attended a party in his own garden which only he was unaware was a party. Several people have now said he was told it was a party. Johnson says this didn’t happen, which means those of us trying to piece together what might have happened have to decide who to believe, in a … [Read more...] about David Davis, the prime minister’s Brexiteer chum, delivers a killer blow

According to The Verge , the fake gift card balance checker could actually steal your money. A Reddit user posted a screenshot of the scam advert on r/assholedesign . It shows the gift card checker being advertised at the very top of Google. The Reddit user had typed in "Target gift card balance" on Google Search and found the ad titled “Check Gift Card Balance - Target.” The site the ad leads you to isn't Target but a scam page called “bristolhirevan.” It looks pretty legitimate apart from the strange web address and would be easy to fall for. There are two economic crises that are going to engulf us this spring: a squeeze on real incomes and a surge of inflation . Of course they are related, but this relationship is not straightforward and the two do not always occur together. In a pure inflation driven only by monetary forces – the sort that is described in most economics textbooks – just about all prices rise more or less together, including the price of labour, ie wages and salaries. Provided that nothing has occurred to diminish productivity, then real wages should hold their own. Yet not all inflationary episodes are like this. Sometimes external factors occur that imply a reduction in the sustainable level of real wages. Large increases in the price of imported commodities, especially oil, are a frequent cause. Of course, when this happens, workers can try to recover their loss of real income by pushing for higher wages . Even if they succeed, collectively this will not make them any better off, since … [Read more...] about Only a bout of tough monetary policy can tame the inflation beast
