'It’s for this reason that retailers can often add a price premium to an endorsed product. Beyond the product line, associating with a likeable, trusted and influential person has a halo effect. Whether or not you buy a set of bedding from them, the very fact this celebrity is attaching their name to the brand can make you think more positively of them as a business.' … [Read more...] about How a BEDDING deal has become the unlikely mark of star power: As Rita Ora, Tess Daly and Holly Willoughby release new ranges, experts explain it’s the ‘new celebrity perfume’ – with contracts worth £750,000

I ask whether marbling is what gives meat its flavour, a story I have heard from chefs. 'I would contest that,' says Professor Crawford, who turns out to be a wild meat connoisseur. 'The roast pig sold in the market in Perugia comes from the woods and is out of this world in flavour and texture,' he says. 'It was the next best thing to the warthog we ate in East Africa. The texture of that was so firm that you could slice it thin with a razor. The flavour was exceptional.' With diffculty, I lure him out of his reverie and ask whether marbling ever occurs naturally. We can’t afford to treat it with disdain,” he told me. His mission meets plenty of resistance: many farmers don’t want to change methods on which they’ve always relied. Nor is no-till perfect. As the plough no longer buries the weeds, no-till farmers still have to spray pesticides. You therefore can’t be both an organic farmer and no-till, as you still have to use chemicals. (To be both is the holy grail, as one ecologically minded farmer put it to me). But to the conservationists, spraying glyphosate is a minor interference compared with the aggressive upheaval caused by ploughing. Cherry likes to quote Franklin D Roosevelt’s 1937 letter to state governors after dust storms and floods had caused irreparable harm across rural America: “The nation that destroys its soil, … [Read more...] about Field of dreams: heartbreak and heroics at the World Ploughing Championships
