DONALD Trump has warned Kim Jong-un he faces the same horror fate as fallen Colonel Gaddafi if he “doesn’t make a deal” over his nuclear weapons programme. The tough-talking US president issued the veiled threat when asked about claims the “Libyan model” could be a template for dealing with North Korea. Trump guaranteed Kim he would remain in power if he surrendered his nukes as doubts continued to swirl over whether the summit planned for next month would take place. He assured Kim if he disarmed he would not meet the same fate as Gaddafi, who gave up his nuclear weapons in 2003, only to be toppled by a brutal western-backed uprising in 2011. However, if North Korea does not relinquish its nuclear weapons, he warned, that is exactly what would happen. Asked if the US would offer security guarantees for Kim, Trump said: "I'm willing to do a lot ... he'll get protections that will be very strong. He then added: "In Libya we decimated that … [Read more...] about North Korea will be completely ‘decimated’ and Kim Jong-un will end up like Gaddafi if he doesn’t sign nuke deal, Trump warns

Kim Jong-un expressed his “bitter sorrow” over the deaths of dozens of Chinese tourists after their bus plunged off a bridge in North Korea. The state-run KCNA news agency reported on Tuesday that the North Korean leader had visited two Chinese survivors of the crash on Sunday in which 32 Chinese and four North Koreans died. In his first reported visit to the Chinese embassy on Monday, Kim was quoted as saying he felt “uncontrollable grief” over the accident in North Hwanghae province. The display is another sign that Kim is attempting to portray himself as a conventional leader – equally at ease offering sympathy to victims of tragedies as making fiery pronouncements – ahead of Friday’s summit with the South Korean president, Moon Jae-in, and another planned meeting with Donald Trump in late May or early June. The agency quoted Kim as saying the North Korean people “take the tragic accident as their own misfortune”. North Korean … [Read more...] about ‘Uncontrollable grief’ of Kim Jong-un over North Korea bus disaster
North Korea sent items used in ballistic missile and chemical weapons programs to Syria along with missile technicians in violation of UN sanctions — and banned ballistic missiles systems to Myanmar, UN experts said. The panel of experts monitoring sanctions against North Korea said its investigations into Pyongyang’s transfer of prohibited ballistic missile, conventional arms and dual use goods found more than 40 previously unreported shipments to Syria between 2012 and 2017. It said an unnamed UN member state also reported evidence of Myanmar’s receipt of a range of conventional weapons from North Korea including multiple rocket launchers and surface-to-air missiles in addition to ballistic missile systems. The Associated Press reported on February 2 that according to the experts’ report, North Korea was flouting UN sanctions on oil and gas, engaging in prohibited ballistic missile cooperation with Syria and Myanmar, and illegally exporting commodities … [Read more...] about UN experts: North Korea sent banned chemical items to Syria
North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un today boasted of the country’s emergence as a “global military power” in the face of sanctions as he oversaw a military parade in the capital Pyongyang. Dressed in a long black winter coat, the dictator was shown walking on a red carpet with his wife at the beginning of the event held on the eve of the Winter Olympics in South Korea. The parade and rally in Kim Il-sung Square began with thousands of goose-stepping troops lined up to form words and slogans. Virtually all foreign media were excluded from the event. In a televised speech, Kim called for his military to maintain a high level of combat readiness against the US and its “followers” so that the “invasive forces cannot infringe upon or harass the republic’s sacred dignity and autonomy even by 0.001 millimetres”. In the parts of his speech which were broadcast, Kim made no mention of the Winter Olympics opening tomorrow in Pyeongchang. … [Read more...] about Kim Jong-un boasts North Korea is a ‘global military power’
KIM Jong-un and North Korea's unrelenting pursuit of nuclear weapons in recent years has heightened global tensions and escalated the risk of military conflict with the US. But very little is known about the man behind the missiles, who was schooled in Switzerland and has reportedly fathered three children with his wife. Here is what we do know about the elusive dictator and his family. Who is Kim Jong-un? Kim is the second child of his predecessor as Supreme Leader, Kim Jong-il and his wife Kim Yong-hui. North Korean authorities have stated that his birth date is January 8, 1982, but South Korean intelligence officials believe the actual date is a year later. Chicago Bulls legend Dennis Rodman, who is a friend of the dictator, said he was born on January 8, 1983. But records at the Swiss school he attended say he was born on July 5, 1984 putting him anywhere between 33 and 35 years of age. Kim attended an English language school near Bern before later going to the Liebefeld … [Read more...] about How old is Kim Jong-un, who is his wife and when did he become North Korea’s supreme leader?
