Sienna Miller, 40, and new boyfriend Oli Green, 25, snog in London sun and the noughties are well and truly back
Sienna Miller is yet another celeb bringing back the noughties after she was papped snogged her new beau, Oli Green, in the London sun. Forget a soft launch – we are very here for this. The actress, 40, looked to be having a whale of a time hanging out with Burberry model Oli, 25, outside a pizzeria in Notting Hill. The couple held hands and clearly only had eyes for each other as they chatted away and laughed over their meal. Despite the sun, Sienna wrapped up for the British weather in a jumper and coat, with Oli donning a casual jeans and T-shirt look. Both of them rocked sunnies as they also enjoyed a walk around West London, taking in the sights. The pair, who have a 15-year gap between them, seemed to confirm their relationship earlier this year after they were spotted leaving the Baftas together looking very cosy. How bottom trawling hurts ocean life and speeds up climate change
When Bryce Stewart dived after the toothed, steel-weighted nets of a scallop dredger rumbling over the bottom of the Irish Sea 22 years ago, he witnessed destruction he could never have seen from a boat. "Half crabs. Smashed up sea urchins. Starfish missing some of their arms," said Stewart, a marine ecologist at the University of York. "There was literally a trail of dead and dying things on the seabed." Bottom trawling — a powerful practice in which heavy nets are dragged along the floor of the ocean to catch fish and seafood — is one of the most harmful ways to feed the world. It destroys ecosystems and sweeps up unwanted marine life that gets thrown overboard. From 1950 to 2014, bottom trawlers discarded $560 billion of bycatch, which was more than the value of all catches from longline fishers over the same period. Metal bars and toothed nets wreak havoc on ocean ecosystems Now scientists fear another environmental disaster bubbling under the surface: climate … [Read more...] about How bottom trawling hurts ocean life and speeds up climate change
Sydney floods force tens of thousands of residents to flee homes
Thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes in Sydney after torrential downpours caused “life-threatening” floodwaters to rise and rivers to overflow. A severe weather warning for heavy rain, flash flooding and 55mph winds was issued along the coast of the capital and other areas in New South Wales. Warragamba Dam in western Sydney began spilling over overnight and the peak of the overflow would be comparable to the devastating flooding in March last year, authorities said. Although residents in some suburbs had been given the order to evacuate, emergency service officials have urged people not to wait to be told to leave, as they say the rising waters could be life-threatening.
