UK ‘on the verge of running out of monkeypox vaccines’
Britain will run out of monkeypox vaccines in about two to three weeks, a report has claimed. Weeks after the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the virus outbreak to be a global health emergency, there are concerns the LGBTQ+ communities most vulnerable to the viral infection could be left stranded. As the demand for shots surges , only a little more than 8,300 doses of vaccine are left, according to an internal NHS letter cited by the Financial Times . Shipments of a new order of 100,000 doses will not resume until September, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) told Metro.co.uk in a statement. Claire Dewsnap, president of the British Association for Sexual Health and HIV, said that at current levels of demand the UK was ‘likely’ to run out of the jabs in about 10 to 20 days. ‘It was thought the number needing vaccination would be lower than we are seeing in clinic and demand is high,’ she said. According to the latest figures available for July 25 and … [Read more...] about UK ‘on the verge of running out of monkeypox vaccines’

UK energy bills now expected to hit £4,266 from January
Annual energy bills for average households in the UK are now forecast to hit £4,266 as gas and electricity prices continue to spiral. The grim prediction has been made by consultancy Cornwall Insight, which expects regulator Ofgem to lift its price cap higher than initially expected. In the first three months from January the price cap is expected to hit £4,266, meaning average households will pay £650 more compared to estimates of just last week. From October this year, the price cap – based on the wholesale cost of energy – is now expected to be £3,582 – compared to £1,971 today. Ofgem has said prices can be adjusted every three months to give energy firms a chance to adjust to volatile an rapidly changing costs. Principal consultant at Cornwall, Dr Craig Lowrey, said that despite prices steadily rising, the latest jump in forecasts was a ‘fresh shock’. He added: ‘The cost-of-living crisis was already top of the news agenda as more and more people face fuel … [Read more...] about UK energy bills now expected to hit £4,266 from January
‘I’m not dying, but I have some bad news’: How MP broke news she had breast cancer
Dawn Butler has opened up about one of the toughest parts of her cancer diagnosis – how to tell her loved ones without worrying them. The Labour MP, 52, has spoken candidly about it, revealing earlier this year that she thought she might die after receiving the news following a routine mammogram. She has now teamed up with Metro.co.uk to launch the campaign A Million Missed Mammograms to try and persuade those yet to have a screening to get one booked. ‘You can survive breast cancer, and the earlier you find it the better,’ the former minister said. Ms Butler has thankfully recovered, but she had to endure some incredibly difficult days along the way. On top of the uncomfortable examination, the operation to remove cancerous cells and the fear her diagnosis may become more invasive, she also found herself struggling with something many might deem relatively simple – telling her family, friends and colleagues about what she was going through. The Brent Central MP … [Read more...] about ‘I’m not dying, but I have some bad news’: How MP broke news she had breast cancer
‘UK’s cheapest petrol station’ – I can’t stop crying after selling up
THE owners of a rural petrol station have sold up just weeks after making headlines for selling fuel at rock bottom prices. Ian Bailey, who owned Bailey's Garage in Abergavenny, Wales, for 50 years said the decision to sell up came after him and his wife were approached about being bought out. Despite him saying it was a decision he "couldn't say no to", Ian said his wife, part of the family business, had not stopped crying since the news of the sale was confirmed, Wales Online reports. He said: "I also feel really sad and as though a family member has died to be honest with you. "Ascona Retail approached us 18 months ago to buy it, and we’ve not known since whether it was actually going to happen or not. "Even until last Thursday we didn’t really know." The Bad and Good News About Trump’s Violent Supporters
In some corners of MAGA-land, a new civil war is getting under way. The FBI’s arrival at Mar-a-Lago yesterday evening to collect evidence in a criminal investigation related to former President Donald Trump is the trigger that some of his supporters needed to suggest that violence is imminent . Predictably, the unverified Twitter accounts of armchair revolutionaries circulated claims such as “I already bought my ammo” and dark talk of “kinetic civil war” and “Civil War 2.0.” Not to be outdone, the National Rifle Association posted an image of Justice Clarence Thomas above an indignant quotation from a majority opinion he wrote: “The constitutional right to bear arms in public for self-defense is not ‘a second class right.’” Verified right-wing influencers got in on the martial rhetoric, too. “Tomorrow is war. Sleep well,” Steven Crowder promised. The bad news is that much of this talk is sincere. It is intended to intimidate the people investigating Trump’s many abuses of … [Read more...] about The Bad and Good News About Trump’s Violent Supporters
