Tributes have been paid to one of Tyne Tees' most popular presenters, Andrew Friend. Andrew, who has died aged 54, became a familiar - and well-loved - face when he joined the channel in the early 1990s. He took on a series of roles at Tyne Tees, including reporter, producer, presenter and senior manager. He also oversaw the Tyne Tees move from City Road in Newcastle to its current home at The Watermark in Gateshead. He said: Keegan played for Newcastle United between 1982 and 1984 and has had two spells as manager. The first was between 1992-97, during which time he saw the club win promotion to the Premier League and finish as runners-up in the competition and the second was for a brief period in 2008. He added: The full interview will feature on tonight's edition of ITV Tyne Tees News, which begins at 6pm. … [Read more...] about Kevin Keegan speaks to ITV Tyne Tees on all things Newcastle United

Plans to build 227 new student flats at the former studios in City Road had been approved in principle by councillors in January. With formal planning permission now granted for the eight-storey development, the proposals can now move forward. The former TTTV site is already home to another major student development - Tyne Student Living - as well as the Tube Court residential apartments. CRSH had previously been granted permission to erect 207 flats on the site, but redesigned their plans to remove cluster flats from the layout in favour of studio flats. The developer said the changes were made in line with market demand, which showed that students preferred studio units over … [Read more...] about More student housing approved for old Tyne Tees TV studio in Newcastle
