Rishi Sunak is to resist a massive tax claw back of the £400billion he’s spent on Covid in Wednesday’s Budget despite UK debt hitting £2.1trillion. In an exclusive interview shadow Chancellor Anneliese Dodds tells him: “Now is not the time.” Instead the Chancellor will give 700,000 shops, pubs, clubs, hotels, restaurants, gyms and hair salons up to £18,000 each to kickstart businesses after the Covid shutdown. Mr Sunak said of his £5billion Restart Grant scheme: “The extra cash will ensure our high street can open their doors with optimism.” Another £425million will go to local authorities to help businesses not covered by the scheme. The Chancellor will also boost the housing market with 95 per cent mortgages from April and a further three month Stamp Duty holiday. It means cash-strapped buyers will only need five per cent deposits on homes up to £600,000 with the Treasury guaranteeing the rest. Only eight low deposit mortgages are now on offer nationwide because of … [Read more...] about Budget at a glance – £18k for pubs, help to buy homes and no rise on booze

Cops discover rotting corpse of 55-year-old on sofa FIVE years after he died living in squalor
POLICE have found the rotting corpse of a 55-year-old who died on his couch FIVE YEARS ago at his home in a Spanish tourist hotspot. Officers were hit with the putrid stench of a dead body when they entered the house in the resort town of Cala Millor, Majorca, earlier this week. Concerned neighbours contacted authorities after not hearing from local man Bernat Masquida Barcelo for many years. The officers knocked on the door repeatedly and after hearing no response used a spare key given to them by one of the neighbours. After entering the property, the cops noticed a strong smell before finding Barcelo’s skeletal corpse in a mummified state lying on his sofa with a blanket over him. The man was fully dressed when he died and was surrounded by beer bottles and cigarette packets, reports say. Cops also found that he lived in filthy conditions and suspected that he had Diogenes syndrome, also known as senile squalor syndrome, which is characterised by severe … [Read more...] about Cops discover rotting corpse of 55-year-old on sofa FIVE years after he died living in squalor
Young couple say they’ve found 150 faults in brand-new £265,000 Help to Buy home
A couple say their Help to Buy dream became a nightmare as they claim to have found 150 problems in their new-build home in two years. Amy Fenn, 24, and fiancé George Watts-Sturrock, 32, bought the £265,000 starter home under the flagship Government scheme. But their joy turned to misery with a seemingly never-ending list of “snags”. The couple claim there was damp and mould, uneven walls and unfinished stairs. They say a sink was wonky, doors were wobbly, worktops damaged, tiling was iffy and drains were blocked with rubble. Then – through sheer bad luck, not down to poor building – there were two floods. In that second, a water tank exploded as horrified Amy and George lay in bed. Amy said: “We heard a huge bang and gushing water and found the tank in our boiler system had literally exploded. It has just been one thing after another.” George, who works in quality assurance, said: “We were so excited to get our first home but it’s been a nightmare.” The detached … [Read more...] about Young couple say they’ve found 150 faults in brand-new £265,000 Help to Buy home
Sam and Billie Faiers’ biological dad – violence, wedding snub and why he’s not on Mummy Diaries
Sam and Billie Faiers were brought up by their mum after their biological dad stopped seeing them when they were young. The former The Only Way is Essex stars have endured a strained relationship with their father, Lee Faiers, over the years. While step dad Dave Chatwood, who is no longer with their mum, is featured heavily on their ITVBe reality series The Mummy Diaries, Lee is nowhere to be seen. It was actually Dave who proudly walked Billie down the aisle during her Maldives wedding to Greg Shepherd in May 2019. Sam and Billie refer to Dave as their 'dad', having had frosty relations with biological father Lee for many years. "From what I gather, he was a seductive bad boy who made his money as a successful market trader," Sam wrote in her tell-all autobiography titled Secrets and Lies: The Truth Behind the Headlines in 2015. When the girls were young they lived on an 18-acre farm in Upminster, Essex, after Lee's job as a market trader made him a millionaire. Sam … [Read more...] about Sam and Billie Faiers’ biological dad – violence, wedding snub and why he’s not on Mummy Diaries
Ant and Dec ‘in trouble with police’ during new Saturday Night Takeaway skit
Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly's latest skit for Saturday Night Takeaway saw the dynamic duo get into trouble with the police. The TV presenters made their long-awaited comeback at a time when it really is needed, and fans are happier than ever to watch the series during lockdown. And the pair's second episode - due to air this Saturday - sees the duo have a run-in with the law in a skit dubbed Double Trouble. The skit starts out with Dec on the sofa with his sandwich and brew as he turns the TV on to watch the news. He's then taken aback by the story of the night titled Celebrities Undertake Bank Heist as the news shows 'CCTV footage' of him and Ant, as well as "unknown accomplice" Stephen Mulhern. Dec then runs out to tell Ant - who lives next door - about what he just saw on the news. The pair then watch together, as Dec says: "it just doesn't make any sense. We would never do anything like that and yet there we are. There's no rational explanation." To which … [Read more...] about Ant and Dec ‘in trouble with police’ during new Saturday Night Takeaway skit
