A Stone Great Dane stands watch over the grave of Jacob Bornkamp... florist to the royals and an unwitting champion of gay rights. Jacob, 52, was in the prime of his life when he was brutally slain in the street in 2000, just three years after his flowers adorned Westminster Abbey for the funeral of Princess Diana. Flamboyant Jacob, also known as Jaap, had previously made bouquets for prime ministers and even a posy for the Queen. His life was cut short in an unprovoked knife attack, which many believe was a homophobic murder. The unsolved killing proved to be a watershed moment for the rights of gay people. For until Jacob’s death, partners in same-sex unions were not entitled to compensation for the loss of loved ones. My novel’s about sex, drugs and scandal on soaps – and it’s all true, reveals agent for TV’s biggest stars
IN more than two decades as a TV agent Melanie Blake masterminded the glittering careers of some of Britain’s best-loved soap stars, including Beverley Callard, Claire King and Gillian Taylforth. But after years behind the scenes, she has now stepped into the spotlight as the author of a new bonkbuster novel, Ruthless Women, set at the studios of a fictional TV drama — which soon starts to look very familiar. It is packed with X-rated sex , scandal, booze, drugs and abuse — but what will really titillate soap fans is that 44-year-old Melanie insists: “It’s all absolutely true.” She says: “The things in the book are absolutely real. I’ve done so many things to protect stars that would shock viewers. “I’ve had clients on Coronation Street, Emmerdale, all over British soaps , and the stuff that I’ve covered up for them . . . I write about the things which I know about. Those characters are all alive. “I’ve been at the end of the phone when clients were sobbing over … [Read more...] about My novel’s about sex, drugs and scandal on soaps – and it’s all true, reveals agent for TV’s biggest stars
Royal Family put on a united front in Commonwealth TV special hours before Meghan and Harry’s explosive Oprah interview
THE Royal Family has banded together in a TV special to mark Commonwealth Day, which will be screened just hours before Meg and Harry's Oprah bombshell. William and Kate hail the heroics of front-line workers around the Commonwealth and Camilla talks about getting children reading. Teaser clips from the one-hour special screened tomorrow/today show Prince Charles blasting Covid-19 for "cruelly robbing countess people of their lives". In a possible aside about Harry and Meg's exile to the USA he adds pandemic restrictions have denied us "the human connections which we so dearly cherish". The Commonwealth Day special has been pre-recorded last week after the Westminster Abbey ceremony was cancelled due to the pandemic. It will air just hours before Harry and Meghan’s interview with chat queen Oprah Winfrey; which is set to be broadcast at primetime in the UK. And it follows claims from insiders that staff nicknamed Prince Harry "the Hostage" ahead of his wedding … [Read more...] about Royal Family put on a united front in Commonwealth TV special hours before Meghan and Harry’s explosive Oprah interview

A butcher jailed for the rape and murder of Libby Squire could have his 27-year minimum jail term sentence increased after his case was referred to the Attorney General. Serial sex offender Pawel Relowicz, 26, was handed a life sentence last month after he was found guilty of the heinous killing. Sheffield Crown Court heard he targeted the 21-year-old university student on January 31, 2019, before driving her to a secluded place, raping her and dumping her body into a river. Libby, a philosophy undergraduate at the University of Hull, was discovered more than six weeks later in the Humber Estuary. Relowicz's sentence, handed down on February 12, could now be increased after his case was referred to the Attorney General. A spokesman said: “We have received a request for the sentence of Pawel Relowicz to be considered under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme.
