0 Have your say A Grantham woman got a taste of fame when she appeared as a contestant on ITV’s The Chase, earlier this month. Judith Davis, 65, of Barrowby Gate, met presenter Bradley Walsh, on an episode of the popular quiz show, where four contestants must pit their wits against the Chaser, a ruthless quiz genius determined to stop them winning the cash prize.Despite being filmed over a year ago, Judith finally got to see herself on screen on Easter Monday.Judith, who used to work at Downtown Superstore, said: “I thought that it would be a funny thing to do now that I am retired and that it would be nice to meet Bradley Walsh, so just decided to go for it.”After applying online, Judith received a call from the production team who asked her a few general knowledge questions. We all love a quiz. Except women, of course, who are “too reticent and modest” to host that venerable contest of wit and knowledge, Have I Got News For You, according to its team captains, Ian Hislop and Paul Merton. Weirdly the otherwise hyper-observant HIGNFY patriarchosaurs have failed to notice that Victoria Coren Mitchell now out-brainiacs them on Only Connect and the only person clever and ballsy enough to replace Stephen Fry on QI was Sandi Toksvig (who also previously hosted the News Quiz, the original radio version of HIGNFY). The satirical news quiz is back tonight, presented by Jeremy Paxman, with presenter Steph McGovern and comedian Josh Widdicombe as the two guest panelists. So maybe everyone does love a quiz, even women, and even young people. The latest mind-crack to hit the app store is HQ, an addictive and hyper-fast live quiz that arrives twice daily on your phone and offers not only a lively social media community but the possibility of cash prizes. Howard Middleton, who served as a councillor in Eccleshill up until his retirement from public office in 2015, is due to appear on the game show on ITV on Wednesday, February 7. Mr Middleton, 56, said it had been a long wait for his episode to appear on television – so long that he had celebrated a birthday since it was recorded. While he could share some stories of his experience in the studio, Mr Middleton had to remain tight-lipped about many details – such as how well he did, and whether he and his team beat the Chaser, whose identity he must keep secret. It has been a long drawn-out process for Mr Middleton, who auditioned for the programme in May 2016, and was called to record the show in March 2017. Now, 11 months later, his episode is finally being screened. Mr Middleton decided to apply after being encouraged by friends. … [Read more...] about Ex-councillor joins The Chase on TV quiz show
