Anne Hegerty secured her job on The Chase after "fighting off muggers". The ITV quiz star has been a regular member on the game show since 2010, just a year after it made its debut on ITV, hosted by Bradley Walsh. At the time, bosses were keen to have a female Chaser come into the mix and it was what Anne put in her letter that convinced show producers she was definitely the right one to sit alongside the other quizzers. ITV boss Sue Allison has revealed just how The Governess managed to bag her longstanding job on the show, as she opened up about the contents of the letter Anne sent in to pitch herself for the role. That was quite a hard task. We saw quite a lot of people. "There were really good quizzers on … [Read more...] about The Chase’s Anne Hegerty bagged ITV quiz show job after ‘fighting off muggers’

Russian TV claims Brits ‘on verge of cannibalism’ amid cost of living crisis
Russians are now being told that Brits are resorting to cannibalism to get through the cost of living crisis. Pro-Kremlin outlet TsargradTV has blamed – and dramatically exaggerated – the UK’s economic issues on sanctions against Russia . Britain’s support for Ukraine has supposedly backfired so badly that the population has been left with no choice but to eat each other, the station suggested. TsargradTV claimed that the UK had fallen victim to the ‘risk of cannibalism’, as Europe faces ‘starvation’. The outlet, owned by Putin-supporting businessman Konstantin Malofeev, published a story this week called ‘Cold, Hunger, Cannibalism: London fell into its own Ukrainian pit.’ It read: ‘Things are not going well in the UK. While politicians are playing into the Ukrainian crisis, their own population is preparing for starvation. ‘And journalists begin to say terrible things aloud, reminding them of the risk of cannibalism. ‘Europe is seeing an explosion in … [Read more...] about Russian TV claims Brits ‘on verge of cannibalism’ amid cost of living crisis

Beat The Chasers finale sees contestant triumph against five quizzers with £60k win
Friday's finale of ITV's Beat The Chasers left viewers thrilled, as contestant Brendan won a whopping £60,000 on the show. The final contestant of the current series took on five of the six Chasers and won. He'd secured £3,000 in the cash builder, and was offered the option to play for this amount, or a higher amount. But the higher he went, and the more Chasers he faced, meant he had less of a time advantage against the Chasers. Mark Labbett, AKA The Beast, tempted Brendan by adding £30,000 on to the previous offer of a £30k prize fund, bringing the total to £60k if he faced him, and four other quizzers. Brendan felt he had nothing to lose, saying he was "only here once" as he decided to play for the highest amount on the table. Beat The Chasers' final contestant of the series won £60,000 after taking a gamble ( Image: ITV) It was a decent clock offer too, with 44 seconds on their clock and 60 seconds on Brendan's, giving the player a 16 second advantage. Texas TV Network cuts away from Jimmy Kimmel’s NRA monologue
Jimmy Kimmel's opening monologue was abruptly cut short Wednesday by a local TV station in Texas after he had called out "cowardly" senators for "listening to the NRA ." Kimmel called out the ABC affiliate station in Dallas, WFAA, on Twitter and vowed to understand why it happened. A representative from the station replied to Kimmel on Twitter and explained that it was a mistake. Kimmel addressed Tuesday's school shooting in Uvalde, Texas which left 19 children and two adults dead. The suspect, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos was shot and killed by law enforcement. The incident has once again sparked the gun control debate as Ramos reportedly bought the firearm on his 18th birthday after a Texas gun law change. Politicians have once again been pressed on the subject, and Kimmel intended to pile the pressure on them too. "Here we are again, on another day of mourning in this country, once again, we grieve for the little boys and girls whose lives have been ended and whose … [Read more...] about Texas TV Network cuts away from Jimmy Kimmel’s NRA monologue
