Bristol has been chosen for one of Channel 4’s regional offices as it prepares to move a chunk of its operation out of London. The city beat nearby Cardiff, Manchester and Birmingham, to secure the prize of being one of the broadcaster’s new “creative hubs”, with 300 of Channel 4’s 800 London-based staff set to be scattered across the UK in the next 12 months. Leeds will be the host city for the broadcaster’s new regional HQ, while Glasgow will be the second “hub” city. There was disappointment in July when Bristol did not make the final shortlist for the headquarters but the silver lining was that the city made it onto the secondary list to become one of the so-called "creative hubs". The announcement is a coup for Mayor Marvin Rees and the team behind the bid, with Mr Rees meeting Channel 4 executives in London last summer to tout Bristol as a possible new home. Leeds has been chosen as the location for Channel 4's new national headquarters. The broadcaster's chief executive Alex Mahon confirmed the news on Wednesday afternoon. The city was chosen over Greater Manchester and Birmingham, and has been praised for its "thriving digital industry and a strong digital talent pool" by Channel 4. The broadcaster's two new creative hubs will be located in Glasgow and Bristol. The three new locations are part of Channel 4's 4 All the UK strategy, which was first announced in March and will mark the biggest change to the structure of the organisation in its 35-year history. Newcastle and Gateshead had submitted a joint bid for the new HQ but failed to make the shortlist - revealed in May - for the main base, shattering hopes on Tyneside.
