Young great white sharks use certain parts of the sea to fine-tune their hunting skills, research suggests. A study published in the journal Environmental Biology of Fishes looked at more than 3,000 shark sightings off the coast of Mossel Bay in South Africa. Researchers wanted to see if the sharks used different habitats during various stages of life. More than four out of five great white sharks spotted in the bay were juveniles, measuring between 1.75m and 3m in length. No adult sharks were seen but researchers spotted "sub-adults", which measure between 3.1m and 3.6m. Advertisement The researchers said the bay offers a sheltered environment for young sharks, with prey such as fish, rays, seals and small whales. They believe that the juvenile sharks are using the area to learn how to hunt without having to worry about competition from larger sharks. BORIS Johnson is to announce a 10pm closing time for pubs tomorrow, The Sun can reveal, as scientists increased the nation's alert level to FOUR. As part of a package of measures to be unveiled to tackle soaring Covid cases, the Prime Minister will slap a curfew on the hospitality industry and enforce patrols to make sure venues are obeying the "rule of six". And pubs, bars and restaurants could be shut completely in virus hotspots. The measures, which were outlined to devolved leaders today, will be kept under review. The curfew is different to the one currently in place in Wales - where they face an 11pm shutdown - but is significantly less severe than a possible two week complete shut-down which was mooted by SAGE scientists just last week. It's not yet clear when the new rules will come in, or how long they will last for. But Dr Bharat Pankhania, an epidemiologist from the University of Exeter, slammed the 10pm curfew as ineffective. Asked if he believed the … [Read more...] about UK lockdown: Pubs to close at 10pm across England as covid alert level RISES to 4
Drifting asleep in the front seat of her car, influencer Asha Grand had already blacked out by the time she slammed full-speed into a vehicle parked on the side of the road. The shocking near-death experience, captured on CCTV, came after the American YouTuber had taken Apetemin, an unlicensed medicine used by thousands of young girls desperate to get Kim Kardashian-style curves. Dangerously promoted as a means to gain weight rapidly, the product - which is illegal to sell in the UK - has seen users report terrifying side effects, ranging from severe fatigue to jaundice and even liver failure. Now, NHS leaders have urged Instagram to clamp down on accounts advertising Apetemin following a BBC documentary that revealed it is being widely flogged on social media and in shops. One woman tells the show she has been hospitalised twice after using it, before admitting: "I took it again and I collapsed down the stairs at home. Apetamin is the devil." With girls as young as 12 … [Read more...] about ‘We nearly died taking illegal ‘Slim Thick’ drug to look like Kim Kardashian – with terrifying side effects’
From today, everyone in England is being urged to take two rapid lateral flow COVID-19 tests a week, to help keep track of the virus. Only people in England will be able to get the tests, with devolved governments in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales making their own decisions on mass-testing. Sky News looks at how the frequent testing will work. What are lateral flow tests? The government wants lateral flow tests to be used to identify asymptomatic people, as one in three people with COVID-19 has no symptoms. Advertisement They use similar technology to a pregnancy test and can produce a result within about 30 minutes. Lateral flow tests are a type of antigen testing. They look for antigens - proteins on the surface of the virus to detect if a person has COVID-19 . AFTER 14 years of Tartan Army domination, Scots voters will decide today whether to give Nicola Sturgeon still more power or put paid to her incessant demand for independence. Voters will weigh her devolved government’s mixed record on health, crime, schools and economic management against yet another push for divorce. Worryingly for the First Minister, her standing appears to have been tarnished by a tawdry row with predecessor Alex Salmond over dodgy conduct at the highest level of Holyrood politics. Salmond has added fuel to the fire by launching his own renegade party, Alba, in an act of sabotage against his old Scot Nat buddies. Ironically, that ploy looks like destroying Salmond himself, the man who singlehandedly breathed life into the Scot Nats and the campaign for Scottish independence. Opinion polls are all over the shop, with one indicating Sturgeon’s own seat was at risk. Two surveys by YouGov and Survation suggest her Scot Nats will bag extra seats, … [Read more...] about Boris Johnson was hate figure for Scots but now they’re wising up to Nicola Sturgeon
