Hundreds of people are feared dead after Japan's biggest earthquake since records began struck the country's north-east coast, unleashing a 10-metre tsunami that swept away buildings, ships and vehicles. The tsunami triggered warnings across the Pacific region . Police said they had found between 200 and 300 bodies in a coastal area of Sendai city, one of the worst-hit areas, the news agency Kyodo reported. There were reports of a major explosion at a petrochemical complex in Sendai. Japanese coastguards were searching for a ship carrying up to 100 people that was swept away by the tsunami and an entire passenger train was unaccounted for, according to the agency. The death toll is expected to rise, with landslides, collapsed buildings and at least 90 fires reported following the 8.9 magnitude shock. It rocked buildings 235 miles away in Tokyo, with experts saying it was about 1,000 times more powerful than the recent New Zealand quake. Russia threatens to NUKE Britain in 200 seconds and Finland in just 10 seconds as Nordic nation applies to join NATO
RUSSIA has threatened to nuke Britain with its Satan-2 hypersonic missile in 200 seconds and obliterate Finland in just ten. The chilling warning has came from a senior politician and was made as the Nordic country has said it wants to join NATO in the wake of Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. Aleksey Zhuravlyov, 59, deputy chairman of the Russian parliament’s defence committee, said in an interview it was “absolutely legitimate” for Russia to “question the existence” of Finland. He was asked if Russia now needed to station its nuclear missiles including the Sarmat – known in the West as the Satan-2 – on the border with its neighbour. “What for? We don't need to,” he replied. “We can hit with a Sarmat from Siberia, and even reach the UK. And if we strike from Kaliningrad the hypersonic's reaching time is 200 seconds - so go ahead, guys.” READ MORE ON RUSSIA VLAD YOUR DAY Coup to oust Putin underway & he'll be removed by year's … [Read more...] about Russia threatens to NUKE Britain in 200 seconds and Finland in just 10 seconds as Nordic nation applies to join NATO
Even isolated states like North Korea get COVID
With North Korea confirming its first COVID-19 case on Thursday, the list of countries untouched by the virus is approaching zero. Officials in North Korea said on Friday morning that there had been six deaths and that health care workers were treating 18,000 people with fevers. It suggests that even an isolationist approach cannot stop the spread of the coronavirus. North Korea sealed its borders in January 2020. But it shares a long border with China and relies on its neighbor for imports and exports. So blocking the virus fully has been near-impossible. Zero-COVID policies "failed" to protect Australia and New Zealand North Korea's new COVID-positive status leaves just two countries — Turkmenistan and Tuvalu — untouched by the pandemic. That's based on global data from official reports of COVID-19 cases and compiled by the Johns Hopkins University in the US. Many countries, including New Zealand, Australia and Fiji took strict isolationist measures at the start of … [Read more...] about Even isolated states like North Korea get COVID

Five MIND-BLOWING Hubble Space Telescope images from the past decade
NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has captured many stunning images over its lifetime – here are five of the most mind-blowing. First conceived in the 1940s, the Hubble Space Telescope (or just Hubble for short) was launched by the US space agency on April 24, 1990. Named after astronomer Edwin Powell Hubble (1889–1953), the instrument currently hovers about 340 miles (547 km) above Earth's surface and completes 15 orbits a day. It is one of Nasa's four great observatories, along with the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory, the Chandra X-ray Observatory, and the Spitzer Space Telescope. Numerous scientific observations that have furthered man's understanding of the universe are can be credited to Hubble. And while the telescope's list of achievements is long, some of its most notable feats include helping astronomers determine the age of the universe and observing the rate at which it is expanding. Carol Vorderman reveals the harrowing murder that still haunts her – and how she’s terrified history could repeat itself
SHE'S one of Britain's most beloved TV personalities, and for over two decades, Carol Vorderman has been working tirelessly to protect the nation's children online. Following the horrific abduction and murder of eight-year-old Sarah Payne in 2000, the former Countdown star campaigned to improve safety measures around the grooming of young children. While many parents were still in the dark over the dangers of growing Internet phenomenons like chat rooms, Carol feared that they were quickly becoming a breeding ground for sex offenders. Long COVID sufferers ‘considering buying own oxygen’ as number seeking help doubles, says charity
The number of people seeking help for long COVID has doubled and the NHS is struggling to keep up, a charity has warned. Asthma and Lung UK said that over the last six months about half a million had visited its long COVID advice pages or called its helpline - and some are at "crisis point".
