The mother of a man who was murdered in Huntingdon has made an emotional plea for people to come forward with information in a letter written to the media. The body of Sam Mechelewski, 20, was found by a member of the public on Thursday February 1 in a wooded area of Hinchingbrooke Country Park. A post mortem revealed he died as a result of a stab wound.In the letter his mother Grace Groom, 52, said: “On 1 February two officers woke me in the middle of the night to tell me that my son was dead. Since then my life has been anything but normal. That is why I write this letter, because normal has gone and I must ask for help.“My son’s life was taken by an act of violence six months to the day before his 21st birthday. The first purpose-built high-ground reserve in the Southern Hemisphere for use in a tsunami is being officially opened in the Bay of Plenty. Civil Defence Minster Kris Faafoi will open the new tsunami high-ground evacuation area at Papamoa's Gordon Spratt Reserve on Saturday and watch the community's evacuation rehearsal. It's the first of four planned tsunami evacuation areas in Tauranga. Two new earthquake-strengthened footbridges have been built to the reserve, which can be reached by students from Papamoa Primary School. Vanuatu and New Caledonia were hit by small tsunami waves after an undersea earthquake of magnitude 7.0 struck 82 kms (51 miles) east of the Loyalty Islands in the South Pacific. The quake, initially reported as magnitude 7.3, was the second major tremor in the same area in less than 24 hours and the third in the past month. It struck at 9.43am local time (2243 Sunday GMT) at a shallow depth of 10km (six miles), east of the remote Loyalty Islands, the United States Geological Survey said.
