Over recent years, international teams have been rewarded for concerning themselves with ceilings rather than flaws when it comes to the selection of their wings. Cheslin Kolbe, whose size was questioned throughout his formative years in South Africa, became a hot-stepping star of the Springboks’ glorious World Cup victory in 2019 . Gabin Villière of France, another diminutive dynamo , was a stand-out of the Grand Slam campaign. Both have a grounding in sevens, which hones breakdown skills as well as footwork, passing and composure in open space. They are now Toulon teammates and, though Kolbe is sidelined with a fractured thumb, Villière defied three would-be tacklers to finish a remarkable, match-winning try against Toulouse at the weekend: Mack Hansen only needed half a season with Connacht – albeit one spent compiling a blockbuster highlight reel – to convince Andy Farrell that he was worth a punt in Ireland’s starting line-up for the Six Nations . That trust … [Read more...] about Adam Radwan proves why England need to focus on what players can do – not what they cannot

Eddie Jones must now justify why he deserves the job – England look nothing like world beaters
This is the very furnace of French pride in which, if Eddie Jones is to be believed, every doubt and gripe about his methods will be gloriously purged in 19 months’ time. Nothing, you suspect, would give him greater satisfaction than to ridicule his detractors with a World Cup triumph and then escape, as he has always promised, to a Caribbean beach to practise his off-spin. Except this ultimate vindication has never looked so remote. On an intoxicating night here in Paris, as France fed off the fervour of their restless supporters to deliver a first Grand Slam since 2010 , England carried the sorrowful air of spare parts at a wedding. They understood, with a third-place finish sewn up at kick-off, that their sole task was to patch up their wounded self-esteem and restore some fragile hope. It is worth highlighting small mercies: England at least conjured a try, only their second in three Tests, thanks to a delicious piece of skill by Freddie Steward in wrong-footing Romain … [Read more...] about Eddie Jones must now justify why he deserves the job – England look nothing like world beaters

May is Mental Health Awareness Month: COVID may have normalized mental health struggles
May is Mental Health Awareness Month and, according to the World Health Organization, the prevalence of anxiety and depression globally increased by a massive 25% in the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic alone. Social isolation was cited as one of the reasons for the increased stress felt by so many during the pandemic. Add in constraints on people’s ability to work or to seek support from loved ones, engage in their communities, loneliness, fear, grief, financial worries and exhaustion from those who work in health care and the perfect storm of a mental health crisis is created. Mental health care providers in Louisiana say they have felt the crisis up close and personal. “The pandemic has challenged the resiliency of people who would previously have had no empathy for anxiety and depression," said Roy Petitfils, LPC, whose counseling practice is based in Lafayette with Pax Renewal Center. Petitfils said the pandemic forced many to deal with realities that were once … [Read more...] about May is Mental Health Awareness Month: COVID may have normalized mental health struggles
Dementia: GPS trackers given to those with syndrome to help stop ‘tragic’ incidents
The last time Len Jenkins was found wandering the streets near his home in Portishead a concerned stranger made sure he was returned safely. But Len's son, Keith, worries constantly about his 94-year-old father. Len's dementia means he cannot always remember where he is. Monkeypox: How do you catch it, what are the symptoms, and how easily does it spread?
Monkeypox is very difficult to catch from someone carrying the infection and is mostly caught from infected wild animals in west of central Africa. The illness for most people is mild with full recovery taking up to four weeks, while the chance of catching it in the UK is currently very low. According to the NHS, you can catch monkeypox if you are bitten by an infected animal or if you touch its blood, body fluids, spots, blisters or scabs. Catching it from an infected person is very uncommon, but transmission is possible through touching clothing, bedding, towels or other items used by someone with the rash. Contact with their blisters or scabs or exposure to their coughs or sneezes could also put you at risk. Advertisement Health experts have said the infection can also be caught by eating meat from an infected animal that has not been cooked properly. It is also possible to catch monkeypox by touching other products such as skin or fur which came … [Read more...] about Monkeypox: How do you catch it, what are the symptoms, and how easily does it spread?
