Joan Laporta remains adamant that Manchester United are wasting their time trying to sign Frenkie de Jong. Erik ten Hag has made signing his former Ajax protege his top transfer priority this summer and, after weeks of negotiations, United thought they were close to striking a deal for a fee of around £56million in addition to various add-ons which would take the total package to £75m. But the two clubs still appear to be at odds over the structure of the deal, with Barca keen to receive a bigger guaranteed fee up front. BAYERN MUNICH director Oliver Kahn has confirmed that the club will not attempt to sign Cristiano Ronaldo. Last week Ronaldo, 37, informed Manchester United officials that he wants to leave this summer. He was due to hold crisis talks with Erik ten Hag on Monday, but his return to pre-season training was delayed for family reasons. Now he has been granted indefinite leave by the new boss and his staff, who currently do not know when he will be back. Meanwhile, United chiefs have insisted that the five-time Ballon d'Or winner will remain at Old Trafford until his contract expires next year, but various clubs have already expressed an interest in signing him. One club rumoured to be interested was Bayern Munich , however, Kahn has admitted that Ronaldo would not fit into the squad. Mauricio Pochettino is keen on making a swift return to management following his sacking by Paris Saint-Germain. The 50-year-old was given his marching orders despite leading the French giants to the Ligue title last season, ultimately paying the price for their Champions League demise against Real Madrid . Despite that setback, Pochettino has no intention of taking a lengthy break, similar to the sabbatical he took after he was sacked by Tottenham in October 2019. Pochettino has retained the home he owned during his time in charge of the north London club and was considering returning to Spurs last season having maintained his relationship with Daniel Levy. The Spurs chairman eventually opted to hire Antonio Conte instead, while Pochettino was also overlooked for the Manchester United job which eventually went to Erik ten Hag. Frenkie de Jong has endorsed Tyrell Malacia’s move to Manchester United after the defender became Erik ten Hag’s first signing at Old Trafford. The 22-year-old completed a £13million move to the Theatre of Dreams on Monday after United hijacked Lyon’s deal for the Netherlands international. Malacia is the first signing of the Ten Hag era but the Dutchman is desperate to add further star quality to the squad, which has lost Paul Pogba , Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and Edinson Cavani since the end of last season. United’s main focus so far this summer has been on signing De Jong from Barcelona and though the two clubs have the outline of an agreement, there remains work to be done to iron out the finer details. Manchester United are close to selling Andreas Pereira to Fulham, bringing the midfielder’s 10-year association with the club to an end. Pereira’s future has been the subject of much speculation this summer, with some reports suggesting that he was part of Erik ten Hag’s plans, while the player himself saying that he wanted to stay at Flamengo after his loan spell at the Brazilian club last season. But according to Fabrizio Romano , Fulham have won the race to sign the 26-year-old, with the Championship champions set to pay £10million plus £3m in add ons for the Brazilian who will sign on a four-year deal with the option for a further season. The football journalist has also reported that Israeli winger Manor Solomon is also in West London and will join the Cottagers on a one-year loan from Shakhtar Donetsk. Bayern Munich are not interested in a summer move for Cristiano Ronaldo as he does not fit into their philosophy, according to the club’s CEO Oliver Kahn. The Portuguese superstar has reportedly told Manchester United that he wants to leave the club this summer and has been linked with a switch to some of Europe’s biggest teams. Chelsea , Paris Saint-Germain and even Barcelona have been touted, while Bayern appeared to be an option as their own legendary centre-forward, Robert Lewandowski, is keen to move on during this transfer window.
