PAYDAY lender PiggyBank has gone bust leaving thousands of customers in limbo over repayments and compensation. The company specialised in lending cash for between £100 and £1,000 to borrowers with poor credit, charging sky high interest rates of up to 1,698.1 per cent APR. The short-term loans had to be paid back over periods of between seven days and five months. According to its website, the company went into administration on December 5. It was last reported to have around 45,000 borrowers on the books. The struggling firm had been temporarily banned from handing out cash in July this year over concerns that it was lending irresponsibly. Experts say up to 500 BILLION slugs could descend on Britain this spring. The massive slime wave will be caused by the mild winter with little frost and a warm start to spring. Last year there were around 420 billion slugs born in Britain - but this year that figure will be more like 500 billion, experts say. It follows another winter with above-average temperatures that experts are predicting will bring an explosion of slugs over the coming weeks. Jude Beherall, from weed feed and control brand Neudorff, said: "A mild winter with minimal frosts will produce a glut of slug eggs and, once hatched, these young slugs will be looking to feed their ferocious appetites and will head straight for the tender foliage of young plants. "We are advising gardeners to be fully prepared with slug controls at the ready to ensure their hard work in the garden is preserved."
