Tyson Fury claims Anthony Joshua fight NO CLOSER to agreement and reveals four main sticking points over talks

· February 25, 2021 ·

TYSON FURY has revealed his frustration at negotiations over a fight with Anthony Joshua being 'no closer' to completion than they were a year ago. The Gypsy King has also revealed the four key sticking points over the deal getting done. Fury , 32, stormed to victory over Deontay Wilder 12 months ago, securing the WBC heavyweight belt in the process. But a trilogy bout with the Bronze Bomber has since fallen through, contributing to leaving Fury frustratedly waiting for Joshua on the sidelines. He told ESPN : "They've had a full year to try and make this fight happen. "Since the last Wilder fight, even before the Wilder fight, they were talking about a fight potentially between me and Joshua. "They've had a full year to make something happen, and it hasn't happened as of yet. "It is what it is. We're no further forward today than we were a year ago." Fury then revealed what he believes to be the key obstacles in getting the deal over the line. Hacking group targets Vietnam activists: Amnesty

· January 24, 2021 ·

Global human rights watchdog Amnesty International said on Wednesday that Ocean Lotus, a group with ties to the Vietnamese government, has been involved in hacking attacks targeting activists and an NGO. The accusations highlight how authorities could resort to unlawful digital surveillance to keep tabs on activists and government critics . Who was targeted? The suspected attacks took place between 2018 and November 2020. They targeted two prominent Vietnamese human rights defenders, one of whom lives in Germany, and a Vietnamese NGO based in the Philippines, Amnesty said. Blogger and pro-democracy activist Bui Thanh Hieu was targeted with spyware at least four times between February 2018 and December 2019, it revealed. He left Vietnam and has lived in Germany since 2013. It said another blogger based in Vietnam, who was not named due to fears for their safety, was targeted three times last year. A Philippines-based nongovernmental organization, the Vietnamese … [Read more...] about Hacking group targets Vietnam activists: Amnesty

High street favourites that won’t re-open in April as Covid closes iconic chains forever

· February 25, 2021 ·

While there's light at the end of the tunnel for many British businesses after months of lockdown, there's some familiar favourites that will never return to the High Street. Many businesses have been told they could reopen on April 12 if the government reaches its Covid vaccination target, as part of Boris Johnson's plan to get the country out of restrictions. Hairdressers, salons, clothing outlets and many small, local businesses such as florists will be able to trade again after more than three months of closures. But for many towns and communities, the high street will never be the same again as one by one big chains that have been part of Britain's culture have fallen under the pressure of the pandemic. Some struggling brands will return to the high street but others will now operate online-only. Paperchase is closing 27 stores while Jaeger, John Lewis, Edinburgh Woollen Mill, Bonmarché, Hays Travel and Prezzo will reduce their store counts. Sir Philip Green's … [Read more...] about High street favourites that won’t re-open in April as Covid closes iconic chains forever

Will there be a fourth SEISS grant? Latest news on self-employed support scheme

· February 25, 2021 ·

Rishi Sunak is expected to confirm a fourth Covid support grant for self-employed workers next week, as he delivers the biggest Budget since the Covid crisis emerged. Amongst stamp duty, the £20 Universal Credit uplift, new minimum wage rates and an update on the future of furlough, the Chancellor is set to deliver news on the next self-employed support grant. But the fourth payment in the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS) could prove the last as it may be scrapped by May. The final scheme will be worth up to £7,500 and cover February, March and April, according to The Telegraph . Workers who meet the criteria will be able to claim 80% of their average profits over three months capped at £2,500, and paid as a single lumpsum. But the scheme could either be scrapped or capped at 20% of profits from May when lockdown restrictions are expected to lift and businesses could reopen. Mike Cherry, national chairman of the Federation of Small Businesses, said the … [Read more...] about Will there be a fourth SEISS grant? Latest news on self-employed support scheme

Watchdog urged to probe whether campaigns broke rules in anti-Labour attack ad blitz

· February 21, 2021 ·

The UK’s elections watchdog has been urged to investigate whether ‘third party’ campaign groups collaborated to flood social media with anti-Labour attack ads. Campaign groups spent as much as £700,000 on ads attacking Jeremy Corbyn and Labour policies during the 2019 election campaign, without declaring any of their donors. But they’re banned from joining forces to plan such campaigns to get around legal spending limits. The Mirror revealed on Friday that a group run by Tory activist Jennifer Powers had spent £65,000 on dozens of ads attacking Jeremy Corbyn and Labour on housing policy. But she flatly denied collaborating with anyone else, insisting she merely had an “amateur interest” in housing, and it was a “kitchen table” operation. But emails obtained by OpenDemocracy reveal striking similarities with another campaign run by a former Boris Johnson aide. The Fair Tax Campaign, founded by Alex Crowley, a former close aide of Boris Johnson, ran around 100 ads … [Read more...] about Watchdog urged to probe whether campaigns broke rules in anti-Labour attack ad blitz
