July 4, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

A traditional throat singer has shown how his amazing vocal talents can captivate wildlife and draw in spooky woodland spirits. TikTok presence Terence MG Leano, known as Throat Sing King, set out to see if his ancient style of singing could charm local deer, but Terence, 26 and from Windsor, Ontario, Canada, seemed to have attracted some spooky spiritual watchers, too, according to some of the 1.7 million who viewed his clip. Terence, who calls himself a visionary artist, shared the clip with the message: "I was overtone singing live today when this happened." In his video, as soon as he starts his other-worldly singing, a deer stops stock still, apparently captivated by the sound. Then, say some watchers, other, more mysterious figures appear, lurking in the dense woodlands. Terence said he was live-streaming when he filmed the deer and inadvertently captured the two strange figures as well. The TikToker, whose bio reads 'Not the king of throat singing, just a king who … [Read more...] about Throat singer captivates chilling woodland spirits in chilling video

July 3, 2022 by www.mirror.co.uk

Liam Lawson will replace Juri Vips as the reserve driver for Red Bull in the wake of the Estonian's sacking for use of racist language in a video game live stream. Vips was suspended from the team's driver development programme after footage emerged of him using the n-word while gaming with friends. After a short investigation, he was then axed from the team – but kept his F2 drive with Hitech Grand Prix. It left Red Bull needing a new reserve driver for their F1 efforts, with someone needed to step in should either Max Verstappen or Sergio Perez miss a race for whatever reason. The team has now announced that two-time F2 race winner Lawson is their chosen man. The New Zealander, 20, has stood on the podium seven times in his F2 career and currently races with Carlin. Lawson's new role will also see him act as a reserve for the sister team AlphaTauri . "Well Liam Lawson steps into that role, obviously following the Juri Vips announcement," confirmed Christian … [Read more...] about Red Bull confirm new backup driver to Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez after Juri Vips axe

F1 star emerged from Michael Schumacher’s shadow to almost stop Lewis Hamilton dominance

April 25, 2022 by www.mirror.co.uk

For more than 30 seconds, he believed that he had just summited the Formula 1 world – only to have that notion cruelly ripped away. Felipe Massa went from dreamland to the depths of despair in such a short space of time. But then came the moment which secured his place in the hearts of F1 fans forever, as he accepted the most difficult of defeats with humility and dignity in front of the people who adored him most in the world. It was in 2008 that Massa had the best shot he would ever have to become the champion. In his sixth full season in the sport and third with Ferrari , he was finally ready to make a real bid for the prize he had been dreaming about ever since he first sat in a go-kart. The stage couldn't have been any more ideal, even if the job was a tough one. In front of his own people, at the Brazilian Grand Prix finale, the Interlagos circuit the he had grown up living just a couple of hours away from was the staging ground for his assault. His job was … [Read more...] about F1 star emerged from Michael Schumacher’s shadow to almost stop Lewis Hamilton dominance

Eight Books in Which Ignorance Is the Point

July 5, 2022 by www.theatlantic.com

In 1893, Henry James complained about the recent publication of Gustave Flaubert’s letters. The French novelist was famous for his stylistic perfectionism. What treachery, then, to publish his casual missives, ones that he hadn’t had time to labor over. To James’s regret, the new collection left Flaubert’s “every weakness exposed, every mystery dispelled, every secret betrayed.” James understood why the book existed. As he wrote, humans possess “an insurmountable desire to know .” When we love someone—a writer, a friend, a mistress—we want to know everything about them; when we hate someone, we want to know everything about them too. This desire applies to more than people: We start a novel and need to know how it ends; we feel a pain in our chest and head over to WebMD to determine its cause. If the desire to know is insurmountable, so too are the consequences. Many books, including ones by James himself, dramatize the dangers of knowledge. (Adam and Eve, meet apple.) Perhaps … [Read more...] about Eight Books in Which Ignorance Is the Point
