A Tory MP has called for an outright ban on bouncy castles after a young girl died when she was thrown 20ft from an 'exploding' inflatable trampoline. The youngster , who was reportedly three-years-old, suffered serious injuries after being "catapulted" from the bouncy castle on the beach at Gorleston, Norfolk, on Sunday. Members of the public and paramedics tried to revive her but she went into cardiac arrest and died at the scene shortly after 11.15am on Sunday. It is thought hot weather could could have caused the inflatable to explode as temperatures reached up to 29 degrees. The tragedy comes after the death of Summer Grant, seven, who died in 2016 after being crushed to death by a bouncy castle at a park in Harlow, Essex. Married fairground workers William Thurston, 29, and Shelby Thurston, 26, were found to be responsible for her "entirely preventable" death after failing to properly secure the inflatable and were jailed for three years in June. On Sunday night, Robert Halfon … [Read more...] about Tory MP calls for bouncy castle ban after second family suffer tragedy

ConsumerBusinessSpotlightConsumerBusinessSpotlightConsumerBusinessSpotlightConsumerBusinessSpotlightConsumerBusinessSpotlight Tory MPs are predicting another Brexit fudge at Chequers. They are probably right
This week, Theresa May must stop kicking the can down the road on Brexit. She must pick a side. European leaders want a detailed plan now. June has passed without agreement. October probably will too. March 2019 looms forebodingly on the horizon. When the full cabinet meets at Chequers to sign off the government’s white paper, Leavers must put up or shut up if, as expected, the vision it sets out is much softer than they can accept. Or will they? Some Tory MPs think not. They gloomily predict that all the cabinet will agree on is another fudge: little meat on the bones, no certainty, and no definitive choice made. As startling as that suggestion is, the likelihood is that they are right. Consider the confidence of communities secretary James Brokenshire, who told Andrew Marr this morning that he believed a deal would be agreed, notwithstanding the “strong views on either side” of the cabinet. Brokenshire is of course a true May loyalist and he … [Read more...] about ConsumerBusinessSpotlightConsumerBusinessSpotlightConsumerBusinessSpotlightConsumerBusinessSpotlightConsumerBusinessSpotlight Tory MPs are predicting another Brexit fudge at Chequers. Tory MPs order Theresa May not to give in to EU’s Brussels bullies on Brexit
THERESA May has been ordered not to give in to Brussels’ bullies ahead of leaving the EU - by her own MPs. The PM must show “courage and leadership” in the face of people desperate to undermine the referendum result. Nearly three dozen Tory MPs have signed a letter to Mrs May demanding she gets tough with counterparts in Brussels. It comes days after President of the European Council Donald Tusk said the PM has been given a “last call” to explain her Brexit demands. In the letter - signed by MPs including ex-Ministerial aide Andrea Jenkyns and Simon Clarke - demands are made not to extend the transition period beyond December 2020. They also state they will not accept any extension to the two-year withdrawal period in March next year. Tory backbenchers also want no extension to the European Court of Justice’s jurisdiction after the transition period. They also don’t accept remaining part of a customs union or a deal that stops Ministers from … [Read more...] about Tory MPs order Theresa May not to give in to EU’s Brussels bullies on Brexit
ConsumerBusinessSpotlightConsumerBusinessSpotlightConsumerBusinessSpotlightConsumerBusinessSpotlightConsumerBusinessSpotlight As May’s authority collapses, Tory MPs are quietly arguing for a radical cabinet reshuffle
Why has cabinet discipline totally collapsed? Most people in Westminster have a two word answer to that question: Theresa May. But her backbenchers have another: the cabinet themselves. It has not quite curdled into full-scale discontent yet, but there are increasing mutterings among Tory MPs that the only way the Prime Minister can regain anything resembling authority or initiative is by clearing out her cabinet. Their theory is that the malaise afflicting the government at present – cabinet ministers behaving as if they were freelancers, divisions on Brexit, and no sense of purpose or direction on domestic policy – can be traced back to her not doing so in January, when a sweeping reshuffle was briefed but never materialised. Despite the promise of a bold new look for the government’s top team, nothing changed. It affirmed the fatalism within government and gloomy narrative about its future. Only one minister, Justine Greening, left the cabinet at … [Read more...] about ConsumerBusinessSpotlightConsumerBusinessSpotlightConsumerBusinessSpotlightConsumerBusinessSpotlightConsumerBusinessSpotlight As May’s authority collapses, Tory MPs are quietly arguing for a radical cabinet reshuffle
Tory MP Confronts Education Secretary Over ‘Appalling’ Conditions Of Academies
A Tory MP has ripped into Education Secretary over the “appalling” state of academies in her northern constituency, saying the nuclear industry had to step in to provide computers. Trudy Harrison demanded action from Damian Hinds as she revealed the Whitehaven Academy in Copeland, Cumbria, had “rotten window frames” which had to be nailed shut while students were left working in 36C heat because of a faulty heating system. The MP fumed at her party colleague, who was appearing before the powerful Commons Education Committee, that “potentially millions” of pounds had been misspent “at one school alone” by the managing multi-academy trust, Bright Tribe. Spelling out anger over Bright Tribe’s monthly spend on IT and building maintenance, Harrison went on to call for academies, which are free from local authority control, to face greater finance transparency rules and inspections from Ofsted. “The finances of the … [Read more...] about Tory MP Confronts Education Secretary Over ‘Appalling’ Conditions Of Academies
