A woman has died following a crash on Torquay seafront late on Friday night. Police were called to Torbay Road, near the Princess Theatre, at 11.14pm after a car collided with the female pedestrian. The casualty was rushed to hospital where she died less than an hour later. Officers say the driver of the vehicle involved is assisting police in their enquiries. A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: "At 11.14pm on on Friday, January 11, police were notified of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Torbay Road, Torquay near Princess Theatre. "As a result of the collision, the pedestrian suffered life threatening injuries. "She was taken to Torbay District Hospital but was pronounced deceased at 12.05am on Saturday. "The driver of the vehicle involved is assisting police in their enquiries to establish the cause of this collision." A seafront hotel could be turned into a set of apartments under a new plan. The proposal involves converting the Marlborough Hotel, on East Parade, in Whitley Bay, into six apartments. The application has been submitted to North Tyneside Council and a decision is expected to be made in October. The borough’s regeneration team has supported the scheme. A seafront hotel in Whitley Bay located near Spanish City is up for sale. Plans have been unveiled to turn part of a seafront hotel into flats.
