[Read more...] about Gb: sconfitta per Boris Johnson alle elezioni suppletive

Why ‘honest, trustworthy’ Jeremy Hunt mightn’t be right as Boris Johnson’s right-hand-man
Ever since he was replaced as health secretary by Boris Johnson, Jeremy Hunt has been busily diagnosing all the Government’s ills. Having refused to accept what he perceived as a demotion to defence secretary after Johnson beat him to the door of No 10 in July 2019, the Prime Minister’s leadership rival has gone on the offensive. As the influential chairman of the health and social care select committee, he spent much of the pandemic voicing his criticisms of Downing Street’s response to coronavirus. No one was therefore surprised when the politician with the shortest odds to replace the Prime Minister announced he would be voting against him in Monday’s confidence ballot. In a series of tweets seen as starting the firing gun on a second leadership pitch, the MP for South West Surrey insisted: “Conservative MPs know in our hearts we are not giving the British people the leadership they deserve. We are not offering the integrity, competence and vision necessary to unleash … [Read more...] about Why ‘honest, trustworthy’ Jeremy Hunt mightn’t be right as Boris Johnson’s right-hand-man
Tory Remoaner Lord Patten slammed for saying he wants Boris Johnson to LOSE the next election
EUROPHILE Tory grandee Lord Patten was given a dressing down by whips - after saying he wants Boris Johnson to LOSE the next election. The devout Remainer accused the Brexit-backing PM of presiding over the rise of an "English nationalist party". He told LBC it would be best if BoJo fails to win at the next poll as he would oversee the break up of the UK . Lord Patten objects to the PM’s plans to make changes to the Northern Ireland protocol . He said: "For me the Conservatives, unless they change very radically, winning the next election would be a disaster for them and the rest of us.’ He also took a swipe at the Culture Secretary, saying: " Nadine Dorries and culture should not appear in the same sentence". Despite a rap from the Chief Whip, the Tory Peer has kept the whip - for now. Boris Johnson refuses to deny he looked at plum job for future wife Carrie
Boris Johnson today refused to deny considering a plum job or jobs for his future wife Carrie. The Prime Minister was asked if he had “ever considered” her appointment to either a taxpayer-funded government post - or “any organisation in one of the royal households”. It comes after the Mirror revealed the Prime Minister asked Cabinet Secretary Simon Case to approach the Royal Foundation which runs the Earthshot Prize in autumn 2020 - while she was his fiancee. According to the Telegraph, the senior civil servant asked the Foundation if Mrs Johnson would be suitable for a communications role, and whether she could expect to be paid. The Palace is said to have decided it would be inappropriate. It followed allegations Boris Johnson tried to make Carrie his £100,000-a-year, taxpayer-funded chief of staff two years earlier, when he was Foreign Secretary and she was his girlfriend. The Mirror also reported a bid by the PM to get her a role as an ambassador on the COP 26 … [Read more...] about Boris Johnson refuses to deny he looked at plum job for future wife Carrie

Boris Johnson WILL face fresh Partygate probe as MPs vote for inquiry into whether he lied to Parliament
BORIS Johnson WILL face a fresh Partygate probe after MPs tonight voted to launch an inquiry into whether he lied to Parliament. Labour's motion sailed through unopposed after the PM abandoned a bid to delay the investigation - declaring he's got "nothing to hide". A Commons committee will now investigate whether the PM misled MPs by previously insisting no lockdown laws were broken in No10. It comes on top of the Met's probe and the Cabinet Office investigation led by Whitehall enforcer Sue Gray. Labour called the vote to publicly shame the PM for bending the truth - and to ask the Commons Privileges Committee to investigate. Deliberately telling porkies in Parliament is a grave offence for which ministers are expected to resign. Downing Street had ordered Tory MPs to back their wrecking amendment which would have kicked a probe into the long grass. But at the eleventh hour - in the face of a brewing Tory rebellion - they pulled the plug and gave Conservative … [Read more...] about Boris Johnson WILL face fresh Partygate probe as MPs vote for inquiry into whether he lied to Parliament
Boris Johnson faces up to by-election drubbing and admits: ‘I’ve got to listen to what people are saying’
Boris Johnson has pledged to listen to voters “until we get through this patch”. The Prime Minister’s comments come in the wake of the biggest by-election defeat in British history as the Conservatives lost a huge majority in Tiverton and Honiton and surrendered Wakefield to Labour on the same night. Shortly after the results were declared, Oliver Dowden resigned as the Conservative Party co-chairman, plunging the Tories into further crisis. Speaking in Kigali, Rwanda on Thursday morning, Mr Johnson said he "of course" accepted responsibility for the double defeat. “It’s absolutely true we’ve had some tough by-election results. They’ve been, I think, a reflection of a lot of things but we’ve got to recognise voters are going through a tough time at the moment," he said. Could more follow Dowden? The resignation of Mr Dowden will inevitably spark speculation on whether other senior Tory figures could quit, but Tory party sources said the Prime Minister was not worried … [Read more...] about Boris Johnson faces up to by-election drubbing and admits: ‘I’ve got to listen to what people are saying’
Boris Johnson suffers two special election defeats, party chairman quits
On Thursday, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson suffered a double blow, as voters in two special elections rejected his Conservative Party, putting further pressure on the British leader at a time when his own party seems to be moving away from him. In the rural southwest England seat of Tiverton and Honiton, the centrist Liberal Democrats overturned a large Conservative majority, in what is considered to be one of the worst byelection results for the party in modern times. On Friday morning the party's chairman, Oliver Dowden, announced his resignation, saying the party “cannot carry on with business as usual.” He added that: “somebody must take responsibility and I have concluded that, in these circumstances, it would not be right for me to remain in office.” At the same time, the Labour Party reclaimed Wakefield in northern England from Johnson's Tories. Tories have a bad night Both contests were triggered by the resignations of Conservative lawmakers … [Read more...] about Boris Johnson suffers two special election defeats, party chairman quits
‘Crazy’ to think I’ll quit if we lose by-elections, says Boris Johnson
Governing parties “generally do not win by-elections”, the Prime Minister has said, adding that it would be “crazy” to suggest he will resign if the Tories lose both seats. Boris Johnson sounded a cautious tone about the Conservative candidates’ prospects of victory as voters head to the polls in the Wakefield and Tiverton and Honiton by-elections . He spoke on Wednesday night just before boarding a plane to Rwanda where he will attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. Asked whether he would quit if he fails to win either seat , he said: “Come on, it was only a year ago that we won the Hartlepool by-election, which everybody thought was… We hadn’t won Hartlepool for – I can’t remember when the Tory party last won Hartlepool – a long time. I don’t think it ever had. “Governing parties generally do not win by-elections, particularly not in mid-term. I’m very hopeful. But you know, there you go. That’s just the reality.” But pressed on whether he would quit as … [Read more...] about ‘Crazy’ to think I’ll quit if we lose by-elections, says Boris Johnson
