The UK has recorded another drop in COVID infections, with 5,177 reported in the last 24 hours. The latest figure is down from the 6,035 coronavirus cases recorded last Sunday. The daily figures on deaths are due to be released later today after a processing error in data for England. Meanwhile, a total of 23,335,514 COVID-19 jabs have been given in the UK so far, according to government data up to 6 March. Austria has suspended vaccinations with a batch of AstraZeneca's coronavirus jabs as a precaution following the death of one person and the illness of another after the shots. A 49-year-old woman died as a result of severe coagulation disorders, while another 35-year-old woman developed a pulmonary embolism, an acute lung disease caused by a dislodged blood clot, and is recovering, the Federal Office for Safety in Health Care (BASG) said. The agency confirmed it had received two reports 'in a temporal connection' with a vaccine from the same batch in the district clinic of Zwettl, Lower Austria. The UK should prepare for a "difficult autumn" due to the threat of new coronavirus variants emerging and a potential surge in other respiratory viruses, a senior health official has warned.
