Judging by the launch episode, any petrolheads allergic to cuddles and scented candles need not have fretted. Insults flew. Pranks were played. Top Gear still had stubble on its chin and a glint in its eye. Our debutants on the starting grid were a pair of strapping Lancastrian lads: comedian Paddy McGuinness and cricket hero Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff. They were joined by motoring journalist and racing driver Chris Harris, sole survivor from the previous line-up. Top Gear might have miles on the clock, but this trio injected some va-va-voom. Their chemistry was immediate,... Register for free to read this article, or log in to your Telegraph account Register Log in … [Read more...] about Top Gear, episode 1, review: Men behaving nicely

Top Gear presenters Paddy McGuinness, Freddie Flintoff and Chris Harris have vowed to bring “a different vibe” to the BBC Two motoring show ahead of its latest series. Speaking before the new season kicks off on June 16, the trio promised that Top Gear will “embrace all sorts of emotions” and will balance “pure car reviews” with “funny bits” and “hugs.” “I feel as though we’re bringing a different vibe to the show, which is a positive in my eyes, with families watching it,” McGuinness said. “Chris does his pure car reviews but there’s also funny bits… then there’s hugs and nice bits such as what we thought about Ethiopia. “I think that’s a good thing. It just happens because that’s how we are and that’s the way the world is now.” Discussing the new “vibe” on set, Harris, who worked with presenters Matt LeBlanc and Chris Evans on previous … [Read more...] about Top Gear stars promise ‘a different vibe’ for new series
As a chess enthusiast Andrew Flintoff is always thinking ahead and the former England cricket skipper remains in the fast lane, debuting on the BBC’s Top Gear new series on June 2. “I’ve always been passionate about cars,” fellow Prestonian Flintoff told me. Flintoff, who started out at Lancashire Schools u11s-u15s, prior to captaining Lancashire and England, fronts the new series of Top Gear with Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris. Following the departure of Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May in 2015, then replacements Chris Evans, Matt Le Blanc and Rory Reid, Flintoff finds himself in the driving seat. “I’m so excited to be joining the Top Gear team,” said Ashes-winning star Flintoff. Flintoff, MBE, and his wife Rachael, have three children, Holly, 14, Corey, 13, and Rocky, 11. Flintoff’s sporting prowess includes that of turning boxer – with a record F1, W1 – when defeating American Richard … [Read more...] about ‘Freddie’ remains in Top Gear!
