The married dad-of-two then studied geography at Oxford University before joining Ford as a graduate trainee in 1982. Top Gear faces the search for a new home after Ministers approved plans to demolish its hangar studio and legendary test track. The BBC series has been filmed on the former airfield at Dunsfold Park in Cranleigh, Surrey for 16 years. But developers have been given the green light to tear up the track and dragstrip and build 1,800 houses in its place. Plans for the site were given outline approval in December 2016, but Tory Communities Secretary Sajid Javid called the decision in after public outcry. A public inquiry, led by Philip Major, was held in July 2017, but the final decision was delayed several times. Both the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and the BBC declined to comment. But a source close to the production said it was far too early to say what the implications would be for Top Gear filming. The show rents the airfield and spends up to ten days filming with an audience in the airfield’s hangar.
