THE Sun Military Awards are back to salute the finest Armed Forces in the world, who have again performed jaw-dropping heroics at home and around the globe. Today we showcase the elite, shortlisted by judges from hundreds of readers’ nominations. Planning on jetting off to the sun in the summer, or looking at going on a skiing break? Before you book it may be handy to check if the place you are going is safe to visit. Which? the consumer rights group has ranked the most dangerous countries in the world for tourists. They have ranked the countries from crime rates, to the likelihood of terrorist attacks, natural disasters and health concerns. Statistics produced by the World Economic Fund, for crimes, the World Risk Report, NHS Fit for Travel website, and Foreign and Commonwealth Office were looked at. South Africa was named as the least safe country to visit in terms of crime, followed by Turkey, Thailand, India and Mexico. Iceland is the safest country to visit - there have only been 36 murders since 2000. But what is the UK's foreign aid budget and how much does Britain actually spend compared to other countries? Here's what we know. What is the UK's foreign aid budget? The UK currently fulfils its target of donating 0.7 per cent of its Gross National Income (GNI) on foreign aid each year. Gross National Income describes the country's annual output of goods and services. This effectively means that for every hundred pounds made in this country 70p goes towards foreign aid. The amount is the UN's target for all developed countries and was first promoted in the 1970s. But it wasn't until 2013 that the UK achieved this target for the first time, before it was enshrined into British law in 2015.
