Baffled shoppers whose key fobs mysteriously stopped working in a Tesco car park have jokingly blamed aliens. North Herts Police received around 100 reports over the course of three days last week in relation to the unexplained phenomena in Royston. Officers went down to the supermarket in Old North Road with reps from communications regulator Ofcom to conduct a survey, with an investigation ongoing. Police at Formby beach in Merseyside had to turn cars away from as far as Leeds and Manchester at the weekend. Merseyside Police said patrols have been increased in the area following reports of "large numbers" of people at the coastal beauty spot looking to enjoy the nice weather. On Saturday, officers turned away more than 100 cars and issued around 20 people with £200 fines for COVID-19 breaches. Some people were found to have travelled to the coast from as far as Leeds, Stockport, and Manchester. A FIVE-year-old girl has been left fighting for life after her family's Range Rover and a car being chased by cops collided. The little girl was in her family's 4x4 when the horror head-on smash with a Citroen unfolded on Sunday. A man has since arrested following the collision in the village of Carlton, South Yorkshire, by cops investigating a burglary in nearby Barnsley. The three-mile pursuit began at 12.35pm on Sunday when an officer in a marked police car spotted a blue Citroen C3 with a smashed windscreen in the village of Athersley North. Police said the Citroen driver then sped off, followed by the cop car. The Citroen sped along country lanes towards the neighbouring village of Royston when it collided with a white Range Rover Evoque coming the opposite way on Fish Dam Lane. The collision happened close to the junction with Shaw Lane which has now been cordoned off for a painstaking forensic examination of the scene. Hundreds of cars were told to turn around when they arrived at a beach today while police gave out 20 Covid-related fines. People were found to have travelled for miles to get to Formby Beach in Merseyside on Sunday (February 28) in a blatant breach of coronavirus lockdown restrictions. Police found visitors to have come as far as Stockport, Manchester and even Leeds to get to the beauty spot, the latter of which is around 85 miles away. Streets around the popular beach were gridlocked with traffic and the car park filled up in the morning, reports the Liverpool Echo . Officers turned over a hundred cars away to were trying to pay a visit. Around 20 people were issued with fines of £200 in the form of fixed penalty notices for breaching Covid restrictions.
