Putin ‘culls six generals’ as he plans ‘deadly new assault’ on Ukraine
Vladimir Putin is thought to have purged six generals over ‘poor performance’ amid warnings his forces are amassing in south Ukraine for a fresh assault. The Ministry of Defence believes commander Aleksandr Vladimirovich Dvornikov – known as the ‘ Butcher of Syria ’ who was appointed commander of the whole Ukraine invasion back in April – was among those culled. It also named General-Colonel Aleksandr Chayko and General-Colonel Aleksandr Zhuravlev, who commanded Russia’s Eastern and Western Military Districts respectively, as ‘highly likely’ to have lost their posts ahead of the new phase of the invasion. A spokesperson for the MoD added: ‘The poor performance of Russia’s armed forces during its invasion of Ukraine has been costly for Russia’s military leadership, highly likely resulting in the dismissal of at least six Russia commanders since the start of hostilities. ‘These dismissals are compounded by at least 10 Russian generals killed on the battlefield in … [Read more...] about Putin ‘culls six generals’ as he plans ‘deadly new assault’ on Ukraine

Ukraine war: Huge explosions rock Russian military base in Crimea
Powerful explosions rocked an air base in Russian-occupied Crimea on Tuesday, and while the Defence Ministry in Moscow said that nobody was injured in the explosion, local authorities said at least five people, including a child, were wounded. Russia's defence ministry said that munitions blew up at the Saki base but insisted the installation had not been shelled. "Several munitions intended for aviation exploded in a depot located on the territory of the Saki military airfield, near the locality of Novofiodorovka," the statement said, quoted by Russian news agencies. Ukrainian social networks were abuzz with speculation that it was hit by Ukrainian-fired long-range missiles, and the New York Times cites Ukrainian sources who confirm it was their military that carried out the attack. There has been no official confirmation as yet. Videos posted on social networks showed sunbathers fleeing a nearby beach as huge clouds of smoke from the explosions rose over the … [Read more...] about Ukraine war: Huge explosions rock Russian military base in Crimea

Putin loses his first female colonel in missile attack
A commander who bragged that she enjoyed killing Ukrainians has been killed in a missile attack. Lt Col Olga ‘Korsa’ Kachura, 52, died instantly when a missile hit her car in Horlivka – part of the Donetsk region largely controlled by pro-Russian forces. She is Vladimir Putin’s first female officer to die in the war. It is thought she ordered the shelling of Donbas cities, causing many civilian deaths. A Ukrainian native, the former police officer reportedly defected to the Russia-backed separatists in 2014. The mum-of-two, who commanded 140 people in a rocket division of the Donetsk People’s Republic forces, is the 97th Russian officer known to have been killed during Putin’s invasion. According to Ukraine’s military, Kachura would disguise herself as a member of the nation’s regular forces to commit war crimes. Anonymous apparently behind doxing of 120K Russian soldiers in Ukraine war
Anonymous, the famed hacker collective, appeared to claim responsibility Sunday for the personal information of 120,000 Russian soldiers allegedly fighting in Ukraine being leaked last month. The information included names, dates of birth, addresses, unit affiliation and passport numbers. "All soldiers participating in the invasion of Ukraine should be subjected to a war crime tribunal," the group tweeted Sunday. This week the Russian military has faced heightened scrutiny over alleged human rights abuses in the Ukrainian town of Bucha. Reports suggested civilians in the town were shot to death with their hands tied behind their backs, and corpses were spotted in yards, cars and streets. The leak results first appeared in the Ukrainian news outlet Pravda on March 1, just days after the invasion of Ukraine began. The outlet did not disclose at the time where the information came from, only noting the "Centre for Defence Strategies acquired this data from reliable sources." … [Read more...] about Anonymous apparently behind doxing of 120K Russian soldiers in Ukraine war
