Films can be great for escapism. For a couple of hours, worries of the world can disappear and you can immerse yourself in a different life. People can watch the same films over and over because of their admiration for its creation. Others like to bring the fictional world and the real world together and they can do that by going to Comic Con events or by visiting locations that feature in films. But how about renting a place that played a part in one of your favourite flicks? Avengers: Endgame was a much anticipated climax to a group of films that had Marvel fans invested. Such was the desperation for spoilers not to be released about the film, directors released a statement asking people to keep what happens to themselves. Part of the comment from the Russo Brothers said: "Because so many of you have invested your time, your hearts, and your souls into these stories, we’re once again asking for your help. "When you see Endgame in the coming weeks, please don’t spoil it … [Read more...] about Avengers: Endgame fans can rent Tony Stark’s cabin on Airbnb
By Preston Wilder Welcome to X-Men, the Yahoo of superhero franchises. Back in 2000 or thereabouts (which was also the year of the first X-Men movie), Yahoo wasn’t just wildly successful, it was wildly exciting. Everybody thought it was the future – and it was the future, in a way, only not as Yahoo. Bigger tech firms appeared and scooped up the internet, Google being the tech equivalent of The Avengers (and the MCU in general) which has now supplanted Professor Xavier and Co. You might be forgiven for thinking that Yahoo’s gone bust, but in fact it’s still a massive company worth billions of dollars – and X-Men too is still a major franchise, the new Dark Phoenix coming with a budget of about $200 million. What’s the point? That’s a reasonable question – though in fact there are two selling points where the X-Universe has the edge over Tony Stark, Thor and the rest of that mob. The first (and perhaps more important) is that the X-Men … [Read more...] about Film review: Dark Phoenix **
[Read more...] about Por que o sexo desapareceu de ‘Game of Thrones’?
Dutch contestant Duncan Laurence won with his song "Arcade”, marking the first win for the Netherlands since 1975. Yet there are other interesting things worth mentioning about the 64th edition of the song competition held in Tel Aviv this Saturday. Not as Politically Neutral as It Seems Although the European Broadcasting Union tries to keep the event politically neutral, and Eurovision has had controversial hosts before, this year was marked with constant reminders of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Most noticeable was the move by Iceland’s entry Hatari to wave Palestinian scarves as they were awarded their public vote points. The group, described on the official Eurovision site as an “award-winning, anti-capitalist, BDSM, techno-dystopian, performance art collective,” has also filled their Instagram with images showing Palestinian flags. The 🇮🇱 — … [Read more...] about Political as Ever: Top Memorable Moments from Eurovision 2019
