Two men who ran out of fuel as they tried to bring £200,000 worth of cocaine into the UK on a jet ski have been jailed. Steve Brogan, 36, and Anthony Reilly, 34, had to be rescued from the North Sea before their arrest on 30 September last year. The men, both from Skelmersdale in Lancashire, took their jet ski from the Lowestoft area of Suffolk to a pick up point in the Netherlands. The pair were carrying the cocaine in a backpack when they approached a survey vessel and "asked the crew for some fuel" on their return journey, Ipswich Crown Court heard. Hugh Vass, prosecuting, said their request for fuel was "refused" and at one point they were "pitched into the sea". Advertisement Mr Vass added that one man was showing signs of hypothermia while the other was showing signs of exhaustion. He added that the men were airlifted to hospital in Gorleston, Norfolk, after the Lowestoft RNLI Lifeboat and the HM Coastguard helicopter from Hull helped … [Read more...] about Cocaine smugglers jailed after jet ski runs out of fuel in the North Sea

Gang splashed stolen cash on jet ski, diamond rings & Rolex watches after bank worker leaked customer details
A CRIME gang splashed out £90,000 on Rolex watches, diamond rings and a sex shop catsuit after bank customers' details were leaked by an insider. Bilal Abass, 30, a trusted member of Satander's anti-fraud team, passed on confidential details to crooks Umair Memon, 28 and Jordan Hamilton-Thomas, 32. The pair used the bank details to order luxury items including high-value jewellery and a jet ski over the phone before collecting them in person. Companies in Leeds, Nottinghamshire, Yorkshire, Leicestershire, Gateshead's Metro Centre, and London were targeted in the fraud. Newcastle Crown Court was told the gang got away with Rolex watches worth up to £9,200 each and earrings worth thousands of pounds. The fraudsters also bought a £5,200 Vauxhall caddy van, a £5,000 jet ski and a £54.60 "wet catsuit" from a sex toy firm with the stolen details. Fernando Alonso bike crash likened to Michael Schumacher ski accident sparking fury
A Spanish mayor has sparked fury after likening Fernando Alonso’s bike crash to Michael Schumacher ’s life-changing ski accident and labelling them “ironic.” The two-time F1 champ received huge support from fans, sportsmen and politicians after being hospitalised following his collision with a car. But Gonzalo Perez Jacome, mayor of the city of Ourense in Spain’s north-west Galicia region, appeared to blame the 39-year-old for what happened in his controversial comparison even though scant details have emerged about Thursday’s afternoon’s incident. The politician, leader of a provincial party called Ouresan Democracy, took to Twitter to say: “Just like Michael Schumacher in his day whilst skiing, Fernando Alonso has had a serious accident on his bike. “It’s ironic that for them both accidents occurred outside of their high-risk sport, Formula 1. “Or perhaps it’s been because of that, because they didn’t dominate the situation even with less risk.” He had yet to remove … [Read more...] about Fernando Alonso bike crash likened to Michael Schumacher ski accident sparking fury

Brit ski instructor found frozen in hut after tragic carbon monoxide ‘accident’
A British ski instructor was found frozen inside a mountain hut after dying in a tragic carbon monoxide 'accident', it is claimed. Dave Ayres, 36, didn't realise the ventilation pipes in the building in Austria had been sealed off for winter, the Liverpool Echo reports. He then returned to the building and lit a stove for warmth while he slept - which is thought to have poisoned the air and killed him. The pipes were apparently sealed up by maintenance workers in November. Dave's body was then found in the hut on January 12, prompting a flood of tributes for the Birkenhead-born man. Got a story? Email [email protected] It is understood that the trained chef was born in the Merseyside town before he moved to Greece with his parents in his 20s. He is said to have also had a degree in tourism and have travelled to various locations around the world before settling in Brand. Villagers in the Austrian ski village where Dave worked are now deciding how to … [Read more...] about Brit ski instructor found frozen in hut after tragic carbon monoxide ‘accident’
