McColl’s sales jump thanks to new stores
C onvenience chain McColl's has recorded a 31pc lift in sales after a boost from its acquisition of 298 Co-operative shops earlier this year. The retail chain said that it had completed integrating the new stores by the middle of July, which had helped to bolster the business. Like-for-like sales, which measure shops open for more than a year, were up by 0.7pc during the three months to August 27. This was largely driven by 0.7pc growth at its 1,300 convenience stores and 0.3pc at its 350 older newsagent shops. McColl's recently signed a new supply deal with Morrisons in a move that will resurrect the Safeway brand and mean the convenience chain will benefit from the supermarket's fresh food offer and bigger purchasing power with consumer giants. Jonathan Miller, chief executive, said: "We’re delighted to have secured Morrisons as our long-term wholesale supply partner. We’re confident this partnership will significantly enhance our fresh food credentials and we expect a … [Read more...] about McColl’s sales jump thanks to new stores
COVID-19: Pubs and restaurants with outdoor areas enjoy reopening sales surge after lockdown easing
Sales at pubs, bars and restaurants that were able to reopen on Monday were sharply higher than pre-pandemic levels with consumers keen to have their first drink out in months, new figures show. Analysis from CGA showed sales at those sites were up by 58.6% compared to the equivalent day in 2019, even though they were limited to serving outdoors amid wintry conditions throughout much of the country. Drinks sales led the way, climbing by 113.8%, but food sales were down by 11.7%. What are the new coronavirus lockdown rules in England and Scotland from today? CGA estimates that 41,100 licensed premises in Britain, or 38.2% of the total, have outdoor space. The early data, based on analysis of 1,687 sites, appeared to suggest the hospitality trade has been a bit more successful than retailers in initially attracting customers back after lockdown restrictions were eased on Monday . How PrettyLittleThing boss Umar Kamani went from being expelled from school to billionaire playboy
WITH his love of designer clothes and private planes, Umar Kamani is every inch the jet-setting playboy. He rubs shoulders with the likes of Will.i.am and Jennifer Lopez , drives a fleet of supercars and holidays in exotic places. Not bad for a lad who was expelled from school and grew up in a house crammed with 18 family members. Umar, 31, is a member of the founding family behind PrettyLittleThing - part of the BooHoo group - the online clothing retailer that started life as a simple market stall and is now a big name in the fashion trade. While high street stores such as Debenhams, New Look and Marks & Spencer have seen sales plunge, BooHoo has bucked the trend. In the first half of this year it reported a hefty 43 per cent rise. The Manchester-based firm specialises in fast, cheap fashion for tweens and 20-somethings and is worth £3.8billion. Its executive chairman, Umar’s dad Mahmud, and his business partner Carol Kane — who started the business in 2006 … [Read more...] about How PrettyLittleThing boss Umar Kamani went from being expelled from school to billionaire playboy
