A mugging victim has appeared on national television to appeal for the public's help to catch the thief who fled with her late husband's life savings. The OAP - known only as Pat - withdrew £1,000 from Lloyds bank, in Longton, last November after the money was left by her husband Jeff. But she was targeted by a pickpocket who asked for directions, dropped his map, and then snatched the cash. Now a reconstruction of the crime has been aired on this morning's edition of Crimewatch Roadshow. Viewers were told Jeff died in July, 2018. Pat, from Longton, said: "I met Jeff when I was 11 and we married when I was 19. I knew everything he was thinking and he knew everything I was thinking. We had some absolutely fantastic times. "It was like losing your right arm when he died, he meant everything. The money was my gift from my husband, he wanted everything to be just so, so that I could enjoy the life I've got left." Pat went to the bank with her daughter, Lesley, on November 14 … [Read more...] about Widow Pat appears on Crimewatch Roadshow to appeal for help to catch mugger

The mayor was on his way to launch the St Patrick's Day festival yesterday afternoon when he noticed a young man running down Peter Street, near St Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin's city centre. Eyewitnesses say the incident followed a suspected break-in at nearby apartment complex Cannon Court, on Bride Street, before noon. Speaking to the Irish Independent, Mr Ring said he saw one man chasing another when he decided to take matters into his own hands. "I quickly told my driver to stop the car a few metres ahead of the man in a bid to cut him off at the end of the street," he said. "There was someone else chasing him, shouting 'stop, thief', so I knew something quite serious must have happened. "When I got out of my car, the man was out of breath and had basically given up by the time myself and another man grabbed him. "He wasn't going anywhere as there were three of us surrounding him." Mr Ring added that in less than a minute gardaí arrived at the scene and arrested the … [Read more...] about Lord Mayor helps to catch fleeing burglary suspect in city centre
A thief has got inside a town centre pub and fled with a bag full of food – including up to 20 of the venue’s famous home-made fishcakes. The woman was caught on CCTV inside the Lymestone Vaults, in Newcastle, during the early-morning raid. It captures her going into the pub’s kitchen, rifling through the fridge and then emerging a short time later with a black bin bag. The bag was later found in the churchyard at nearby St Giles’s Church - with the majority of food still inside. Now Lymestone Brewery - which owns the Pepper Street pub - wants the public's help to try to catch the thief. Brewery co-director Viv Bradford said: “The woman didn’t break in, she used a key of some description. She was seen trying various keys in locks in the area. I think she just got lucky with us after fiddling with ours because it was an old lock. "The CCTV shows her come through the door and go in the kitchen. She was in there for about 15 minutes. She took the … [Read more...] about WANTED: Can YOU help catch the thief who pinched 20 fishcakes from this pub?
