A thief has got inside a town centre pub and fled with a bag full of food – including up to 20 of the venue’s famous home-made fishcakes. The woman was caught on CCTV inside the Lymestone Vaults, in Newcastle, during the early-morning raid. It captures her going into the pub’s kitchen, rifling through the fridge and then emerging a short time later with a black bin bag. The bag was later found in the churchyard at nearby St Giles’s Church - with the majority of food still inside. Now Lymestone Brewery - which owns the Pepper Street pub - wants the public's help to try to catch the thief. Brewery co-director Viv Bradford said: “The woman didn’t break in, she used a key of some description. She was seen trying various keys in locks in the area. I think she just got lucky with us after fiddling with ours because it was an old lock. "The CCTV shows her come through the door and go in the kitchen. She was in there for about 15 minutes. She took the … [Read more...] about WANTED: Can YOU help catch the thief who pinched 20 fishcakes from this pub?

A tattooed have-a-go hero chased down a suspected car thief - but ended up saving his life. Self-confessed 'gentle giant' Peter Scullion woke up with a start in his marital bed after hearing someone on his drive in Ladysmith Road, Mount Gould. Fearing the worst, he jumped to his feet and peered out his window - only to find the front door of his silver Skoda Octavia wide open and a man searching through inside. Filled with rage, 46-year-old Peter whipped on a pair of shorts and armed himself with a BASEBALL BAT before bolting out his front door. The drama unfolded in the early hours of this morning - as the rest of Plymouth slept. "Last night, I got up for the loo at about 3am," the brave Scot recalled. "I came back, laid on the bed, trying to get back to sleep. "Then, at about 3.20am, I heard a noise out the front. "So I thought, right, I'm going to catch the b*****s who scratched my car when it was parked on the other side of the road recently. "When I looked out the window, the door … [Read more...] about I chased a thief down the road in my pants
I’ve given up wearing make-up. It wasn’t a drastic overnight decision, more one that crept up on me. It’s a funny thing, but the longer you don’t wear make-up, the more it seems like an entirely implausible thing altogether. I think my face looks fine, I mean, it’s just my face. What I’ve missed though is that extra sheen make-up offers, a soupçon de je ne sais quoi, which I’ve been looking for in other areas… Hot weather brings up a lot of dressing conundrums, but accessories do need a rethink. Heavy leather bags aren’t right, clumpy trainers are a sweatbox of misery, stud earrings feel a bit killjoy. Where is the joie de vivre? The pura vida… as the Costa Ricans would say. That “extra half an inch” as Victoria Beckham counselled in her 2007 tome. Wobble blush pink earrings, £45, Toolally, Pink velvet mules, £140, Dries van Noten, Browns Fashion, Cotton … [Read more...] about The accessories you need to add joie de vivre to your summer look
