The Hairy Bikers will return to the UK for their next road trip, describing their new series as “a love letter to the North”. Northerners Si King and Dave Myers, who have been globe-trotting for years, went back to their roots for the eight-part BBC show they filmed last summer. The “joyous” food adventure takes them through regions they grew up in as they explore Lancashire, Cumbria, Yorkshire, the Peak District in Derbyshire, Northumberland and Newcastle. Dave, 63, who is from Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, said: “It has been nearly a decade since we went on the road in Britain. “We had already decided to film in the UK before Covid stopped foreign travel. You quite often miss what is on your own doorstep. “Please join us for a joyous romp through some of the world’s finest food – and the world that is ours.” Si, 54, who hails from County Durham, said: “This is without doubt the most personal, emotional and enlightening journey we have undertaken. “We flipping loved … [Read more...] about The Hairy Bikers to return to their Northern homeplaces for brand-new BBC series

Rosie Coombs and boyfriend Callum fell in love with the idea of living on the water after lockdown made them crave a calmer life. So the couple, from Bridgenorth, Shrops, decided to bite the bullet and go for it - selling their £400,000 newly renovated detached cottage with a roof terrace to buy a £75,000 narrowboat. Shoppers are paying up to 180% more for vegan food than for the equivalent meat-based product, research finds
Shoppers are paying up to 180 per cent more for vegan food than for the equivalent meat-based product, research has found. Four in five vegan goods cost more than their meat versions, according to a study commissioned by sports insurance brand Insure4Sport. It was noted that Marks & Spencer's £2.25 Plant Kitchen 'No Pork' sausage rolls were £1.45 more expensive than their 80p meat alternative - both of which weighed 120g. Meanwhile, Waitrose's £3.75 Vegan Chilli with Soya Mince and Rice, which weighs 400g, costs £1 more than its 450g meat counterpart. Many ingredients in the vegan products are more affordable, but the price can be driven up by development methods such as blending stages and heat processing. The US House of Representatives approved a $1.9 trillion (€1.57 trillion) coronavirus stimulus fund in the early hours of Saturday morning.
