Essential holiday questions answered – what you can and can’t book in UK and abroad

· February 24, 2021 ·

With Prime Minister Boris Johnson finally declaring the end of lockdown is firmly in our sights, many of us are desperate to book that long-awaited getaway. But just where and what can we do? Here are some of your holiday questions answered. When can we holiday at home? Domestic holidays will be allowed from April 12 - after Easter - although hotels and B&B’s will not open until at least May 17. When can we travel abroad? Foreign travel may also be given the go-ahead from May 17, although a review into restarting travel concludes on April 12. Depending on its findings, dates could change. Where can we go? Currently there are 33 countries on the high-risk list. Anyone travelling from these countries to the UK will need to quarantine in a government-approved hotel for ten days at a cost of £1,750. You will also need to take two coronavirus tests. It isn’t known how long this scheme will run for. Do you enjoy reading about politics? German chess prodigy Vincent Keymer: ‘External pressure has never been a problem’

· January 24, 2021 ·

Vincent Keymer isn't the type of individual to be easily sidetracked – not by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has put a stop to chess players sitting across the board from one another, and not by the high hopes the German chess community is placing in the 16-year-old. "External pressure has never been much of a problem for me," the student from the small town of Saulheim in western Germany told DW. "If I were to start trying to live up to the expectations of others, I would lose control over my own destiny." Seven hours against Magnus Carlsen The youngster, seen as the greatest talent Germany has produced in half a century, has been steadily climbing the competitive chess ladder. Keymer first beat a grandmaster at the age of 10 and at 14 he earned the title of grandmaster himself – becoming the youngest-ever German to do so. By then he had already sat opposite world champion Magnus Carlsen for the first time – in the first round of a the Grenke Chess Open in Karlsruhe during … [Read more...] about German chess prodigy Vincent Keymer: ‘External pressure has never been a problem’

Paris Hilton now after Kim Kardashian butt slur, Nicole Richie truce and egg freezing

· February 17, 2021 ·

Before the days of Instagram, Paris Hilton was the first celebrity to really master the art of being famous for being famous. As the loaded heiress to the Hilton hotel chain, Paris - who turns 40 today - turned up at the best parties, wore the best clothes and surrounded herself with the hottest stars of the moment including Nicole Richie, Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan. Using her 'ditzy' persona and obvious sex appeal, Paris made a mint launching everything from perfumes and clothing stores to books, fake tans, wines and everything in between in a business model that would later help the likes of Katie Price make millions. And it was all aided by Paris' best friend and wardrobe organiser Kim Kardashian , who reportedly worked tirelessly behind the scenes leaking stories to the media on Paris' behalf to raise her profile as she pioneered the art of turning partying into profit. "She was the ultimate package that corporate America would want to make for itself as a … [Read more...] about Paris Hilton now after Kim Kardashian butt slur, Nicole Richie truce and egg freezing

Inside Odeon as it prepares to reopen cinemas with no pick and mix or cash payments

· June 30, 2020 ·

STEPPING into an Odeon cinema and a waft of fresh popcorn hits my nose. It might still smell the same, but how different will cinemas look when they reopen their doors after lockdown? The Sun takes an exclusive first look inside an Odeon in Milton Keynes as it prepares to reopen with new social distancing rules, which include no pick and mix, cash payments and fewer seats. The cinema chain’s 120 venues have been shut since March 17, along with rivals Vue, Picturehouse and Cineworld. But Odeon has now confirmed it’ll reopen 10 of its cinemas on July 4 , with a further 88 set to welcome back customers by July 16. It comes after the government gave cinema chains the green light to reopen from early July, along with pubs, hotels and restaurants. I love going to the cinema - so I was excited to see how its changed. Inside the movie theatre there are restrictions on where you can sit, with every other row and at least three seats between households left unoccupied to … [Read more...] about Inside Odeon as it prepares to reopen cinemas with no pick and mix or cash payments
