A former Derby MP and mental health campaigner is asking people across the county to get involved in a new challenge. The Head High Happy Box Challenge, which involves filming yourself filling a box with five things which make you happy, is being completed by people across Derbyshire. The challenge aims to break down the stigma of mental health by remembering the positives around us. Former Derby North MP Amanda Solloway, who runs Head High, the charity behind the challenge, completed her own Happy Box. Amanda placed a lipstick, some earrings, a book from her mum, the words of her favourite song and her marathon medal inside her happy box. Amanda said: "Like a lot of people, sometimes I can feel a little bit low or empty. "All in all, I find sometimes it's good to get your thoughts together and think about things that make you happy." It's French's seventh novel and the first standalone book after the wildly successful Dublin 'Murder Squad' series. Like all of her work, her latest is the sort that will eat up your waking hours. It's built around an affluent young Dubliner, Toby Hennessy, who's had a gilded existence. The things that make people in South Shields angry will only be made worse by Brexit, the town's former MP has said. David Miliband said Brexit was getting in the way of changes needed to improve people's lives as he repeated calls for a second referendum in a national BBC interview this morning. The former Foreign Secretary said there were massive issues of unfairness in society which needed to be addressed, which he knew made people angry - but added Brexit was not the way to deal with those problems."My former constituency, South Shields, voted 65% to leave. And I continue to go back there, and I talk to people," he said."Far from being the salve that will address the problems of the country, Brexit compounds the problems that precisely the voters I used to appeal to in South Shields were most angry about."He added: "Across the western world we know that there are not just deep issues of social and economic inequality, there's also fundamental challenges to the liberal democratic … [Read more...] about ‘The things that make people in South Shields angry will be made worse by Brexit,’ claims ex-MP David Miliband as he calls for second referendum
