Since the Royal Armouries in the Tower of London first opened to the public in 1660 – one of the world’s oldest visitor attractions – the country has grown to excel at such institutions. Indeed, a survey by Visit Britain found that, out of 32 activities, “visiting museums” ranks third on potential visitors’ to-do lists. Fortunately, Britain’s museums have moved with the times, too. SPAIN are blessed with a number of midfield maestros - but Cesc Fabregas is not one of them this summer. Instead the Chelsea star is on the BBC pundit sofa and will be giving his thoughts on his national team throughout their World Cup adventure. Why is Cesc Fabregas not playing for Spain? THE Chelsea midfielder will not be at this summer's finals - as former boss Julen Lopetegui didn't select him in the 23-man squad. Packed full of exciting talent, there is no room for Fab despite his experience of six major tournaments - and of course that killer pass in the 2010 World Cup Final. He is currently on the Beeb for their summer coverage, and Head of BBC Sport Philip Bernie said: "We are delighted to welcome Cesc as he joins our star-studded team of experts in Russia. The last time Uruguay reached the World Cup quarter-finals, it was a tournament defined by slow burners and rigid defences. Eight years later, they're back but among very different company. Fast forward to 2018 and the same system is back with a vengeance, knocking out a Portugal side that had … [Read more...] about Uruguay breaking the World Cup’s offence-first mould
A 'world class' ski centre and outdoor pursuits resort is in the pipeline, just an hour up the M1 from Derby. A ski slope in Sheffield which shut in 2012 is being brought back by a consortium of developers called EXTREME - with a £22.5 million masterplan in the pipeline. It will see the 48-acre Sheffield Ski Centre site at Parkwood Springs rebuilt with a new ski slope and lodge and plans for new mountain bike trails and skateboarding facilities in the first phase of works. The eventual plan is to turn the site into a major outdoor pursuits centre including the possibility of an indoor sky diving facility, live music, E-Gaming and Virtual reality hub as well as hotels, restaurants, bars, social spaces, retail and themed accommodation. The 'world class' facility planned would create around 100 jobs and bring the former ski slope back in the first phase of work. Councillor Mazher Iqbal, cabinet member for business and investment at Sheffield City Council, said: “It’s … [Read more...] about £22.5m ‘world class’ ski resort is coming an hour from Derby
