Marco della Cava and Elizabeth Weise USA TODAY Published 5:57 AM EDT Oct 29, 2018 The Jewish congregants were there to celebrate life, but were met by death. Most never had a chance. Just before 10 a.m. Saturday, suspected gunman Robert Bowers, 46, burst into the Tree of Life Congregation Synagogue in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh and, yelling "All Jews must die," killed 11 before himself being wounded and taken into custody. The list of those killed Saturday included middle-aged brothers, an elderly husband and wife and a grandmother nearing 100. All were cherished members of a tight-knit Jewish community with deep roots in Pittsburgh history. Many of them had gathered for a naming ceremony, which marks the beginning of a baby's journey in the Jewish faith. Some arrived on this traditionally holy day, the sabbath, simply to worship, study and pray. All wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else. On Sunday, Pittsburgh chief medical examiner Karl … [Read more...] about Who were the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting victims?

In a speech to pro-life supporters, Donald Trump veered off script by refusing to say electing Republicans in the midterms was as important as voting for him in 2016. The US president, who was speaking at the annual “Campaign for Life Gala”, initially warned the audience they must show up at the polls to preserve the gains made under his administration. “Every day between now and November we must work together to elect more lawmakers who share our values, cherish our heritage, and proudly stand for life,” Mr Trump said. He summed it up for the roomful of enthusiastic supporters: “The story is, '18 midterms, we need Republicans.” Read more Donald Trump's UK visit may be extended so he can play golf Surge in deadly miners' lung disease as Trump aims to push coal output Jimmy Carter says Trump could win the Nobel Peace Prize The president promised a “massive campaign” to assist Republicans this autumn, and … [Read more...] about Midterms 2018: Trump refuses to put party before himself in scripted speech, ‘I don’t know who the hell wrote that line’
How the FBI managed to turn Donald Trump into a victim I do not know, but it seems they have done precisely that. Actually, I do know how they’ve done it. They’ve done it by losing any sense of proportion and raiding the office of President Trump’s personal attorney, Michael Cohen, in full gangbusters style. It’s as if the lawyer’s offices were harbouring some Isis operatives intent on a terror attack, or maybe some vicious narco cartel boss. Of course, Cohen’s premises were only a safe refuge of sorts for the details of the president’s relationship (or not) with Stormy Daniels. Ostensibly, this is because of an acknowledged payment apparently made by Cohen personally to the former adult film actor (real name Stephanie Clifford), which in turn is connected with a sexual relationship (or not) between the two. After White House chief of staff John Kelly pressured President Donald Trump last fall to install his top deputy, Kirstjen Nielsen, atop the Department of Homeland Security, the president lost his temper when conservative allies argued she wasn't sufficiently hardline on immigration. "You didn't tell me she was a [expletive] George W. Bush person," Trump growled. After Kelly told Fox News Channel's Bret Baier in a January interview that Trump's immigration views had not been "fully informed" during the campaign and had since "evolved," the president berated Kelly in the Oval Office - his shouts so loud they could be heard through the doors. And just 11 days ago, Kelly grew so frustrated on the day that Trump fired Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin that Nielsen and Defense Secretary James Mattis both tried to calm him down and offer pep talks, according to three people with knowledge of the incident. "I'm out of here, guys," Kelly said - comments some interpreted as a … [Read more...] about The inside story of how Trump’s Chief of Staff lost his power
