Emma Raducanu 6-3, 1-6, 1-6 Aliaksandra Sasnovich – French Open LIVE RESULT: Brit OUT as Belarussians wins in three sets

May 25, 2022 by www.thesun.co.uk

EMMA RADUCANU is out of the French Open. Things looked good for the Brit when she stormed to a 6-3 victory in the first set on Court Suzanne Lenglen, which will be frequented by Novak Djokovic later today. However, Sasnovich emphatically snatched the second set 6-1 to set up a decider. And Raducanu was unable to keep up with the pace set by the Belarussian as she won 6-1 in the final set. Sasnovich has been something of a bogey player for Raducanu, having secured a crushing 6-2, 6-4 victory in their only previous meeting, at the Indian Wells Masters last October - the Brit's first match after winning the US Open. Giacomo Pisa 25th May 2022, 12:49 Thanks for joining us That's all from us today as Emma Raducanu's French Open campaign came to an end at the second round. After winning the first set against Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-3, the Brit looked well set to kick on. But Sasnovich suddenly clicked into gear and Raducanu went backwards. Whale trapped in illegal fishing net freed by daring divers

May 24, 2022 by metro.co.uk

Spanish divers managed to save the life of a 12-metre long whale trapped in an illegal fishing net after a daring operation to cut it free. The huge humpback became entangled in a banned drift net off the island of Mallorca on Friday. It’s just the third time the species has been spotted in the Balearic region but excitement quickly turned to worry when marine scientists realised it was in trouble. Rescue specialists were alerted when the stricken creature was spotted by a ship about three miles off the coast. Divers from Palma de Mallorca’s Aquarium were dispatched to try and untangle it from the net, a variety outlawed because of the risks it can pose to wildlife. The contraption had become fastened around its mouth, leaving the whale unable to eat, weakened and drifting dangerously towards the beach. One of the divers involved in the operation, marine biologist Gigi Torras, said she thought the whale had given them ‘a little thank you sign’ after cutting it … [Read more...] about Whale trapped in illegal fishing net freed by daring divers

Sunak unveils £15bn package and U-turns on windfall tax to help Britons ‘hit hard’ by cost of living surge

May 26, 2022 by news.sky.com

Chancellor Rishi Sunak has announced a £15bn package of cost of living support including a £400 discount on energy bills for all and a £650 one-off payment to the poorest eight million households. The measures will be partly funded by a temporary levy on oil and gas companies which are enjoying bumper profits, as a result of soaring prices, that is expected to raise £5bn over the next year. It comes after inflation soared to a 40-year high, with energy bills set to climb by a further £800 in the autumn, and the Bank of England warning of "apocalyptic" food price rises as a result of the war in Ukraine. Announcing the policy in the House of Commons, Mr Sunak acknowledged that people were struggling. He said: "We will get through this, we have the tools and the determination we need to combat and reduce inflation. We will make sure the most vulnerable and least well off get the support they need at this time of difficulty Advertisement "We know that … [Read more...] about Sunak unveils £15bn package and U-turns on windfall tax to help Britons ‘hit hard’ by cost of living surge

Norwich 0 Tottenham 5: Son, Kulusevski and Kane strikes seal Champions League football in emphatic style

May 22, 2022 by www.thesun.co.uk

TOTTENHAM fans could be forgiven for feeling as sick as Harry Kane did on Friday ahead of this Champions League decider. In the end, they were left only with butterflies of excitement as Antonio Conte pulled off his top-four “miracle” with nothing remotely Spursy in sight. January signings Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur combined as the Swede netted the crucial opener. Kane, who had Spurs fans fearing the worst when pulling out of a media event three days ago with tummy trouble, got the second before Kulusevski struck a belter. The procession had begun in earnest by then but it got better for the delirious away fans as South Korean hero Son Heung-Min netted twice to win the Premier League golden boot. His second on the day - and his 23rd league goal of the season - was sheer magic as he blasted into the top corner before being mobbed by his team-mates. ‘Who needs Haaland?’ – New Man City star Julian Alvarez makes history with SIX goals in match breaking 121-year record

May 26, 2022 by www.thesun.co.uk

MANCHESTER CITY fans have joked why did they sign Erling Haaland after incoming striker Julian Alvarez scored a DOUBLE hat-trick for River Plate. The Argentine forward, 22, agreed a deal to join the Citizens in January , with the player remaining on loan at River until the summer. Alvarez has earned a reputation of being a lethal marksman in South America having banged in 24 goals last season. And he has found the back of the net 14 times from 17 games in all competitions this term - with SIX of those strikes coming on Wednesday night. The 2021 Copa America champion created club history when he scored a double hat-trick in their 8-1 Copa Libertadores group stage win against Alianza Lima. Alvarez scored three goals in either half against the Peruvian outfit to become the first player in River's 121-year existence to score that many times in a single match.
