Prince Philip ‘asked Charles to visit hospital to talk of Royal Family’s future’

· February 26, 2021 ·

Prince Philip likely wanted son Charles to visit him in hospital to discuss the future of the Royal Family, according to an ex-Palace official. The Queen's former press officer Dickie Arbiter said the visit at London's private King Edward VII Hospital last Saturday would have been at Philip's "request". Speaking on True Royalty TV's weekly The Royal Beat programme earlier today, Mr Arbiter said the Duke of Edinburgh will have been looking to the future when he is no longer around. "He was just saying to Charles, 'one day you are going to be the leading man of the family'," he continued. Mr Arbiter, 81, served the Queen from 1988 until 2000. What are your thoughts on the future of the Royal Family? Let us know in the comments He was speaking following reports the Duke, 99, would be spending a second weekend in hospital while receiving treatment for an infection. COVID-19: Vaccine rollout by age not profession makes sense, says ex-chief scientific adviser Mark Walport

· February 27, 2021 ·

A former chief scientific adviser says rolling out the COVID-19 vaccine by age rather than prioritising professions "makes sense". Professor Sir Mark Walport, who advised the government from 2013-2017, defended the decision to not prioritise frontline professions after teacher and police unions voiced their disappointment. On Friday, the government announced who would be the next priority for getting the COVID-19 vaccine as part of the second phase of the rollout. If everyone in the top nine priority groups has had their first dose by 15 April, the next group will be those aged 40-49, then 30-39 year olds and finally 18-29 year olds by 31 July. "The rollout is going in such an efficient way by doing it through the ages," Professor Sir Mark told the BBC. Advertisement "Of course, there will be many teachers, many police, who are in the 40-50 age group and indeed who will have been immunised already. So, it does make sense. "It's still … [Read more...] about COVID-19: Vaccine rollout by age not profession makes sense, says ex-chief scientific adviser Mark Walport

Care homes CAN impose ‘no jab, no job’ work contracts on new staff, says Justice Secretary

· February 27, 2021 ·

CARE homes can can impose 'no jab, no job' contracts on new staff, the Justice Secretary has confirmed. Robert Buckland said care homes must have "obvious rationale" to require employees to be vaccinated. He added that the Government would not be adopting a "blanket approach" to care homes imposing "no jabs, no jobs" policies. Speaking to the BBC , he said: "Future contracts and contracts of employment are indeed matters between employers and employees. "I think that where such conditions are imposed there needs to be a very clear rationale for them. "In a care home, a closed environment where there are vulnerable residents, I would argue there does seem to be an obvious rationale. "I think it will depend very much on each setting and the particular context. That is why I don't think it would be right to say there can be a blanket approach here because we need to go back to the fundamental fact that vaccines are not compulsory here in the UK. "There's a very … [Read more...] about Care homes CAN impose ‘no jab, no job’ work contracts on new staff, says Justice Secretary

Taylor Swift has apologised after she was forced to cancel previously postponed tour dates due to the pandemic. The pop superstar announced in April last year she was axing all live appearances and performances in 2020 in response to the Covid-19 outbreak. Speaking at the time, Taylor said she hoped to reschedule her US and Brazil tour dates and fans were allowed to hold on to tickets However in a new statement on Friday, the singer said she was "so sorry" to confirm those dates too had now been cancelled. She said: "I love coming on here to tell you good news, or to share a new project with you. "It's not my favourite thing in the world to have to tell you news I'm sad about. I'm so sorry, but I cannot reschedule the shows that we've postponed. "Although refunds have been available since we first postponed the Lover Fest shows, many of you hung onto your tickets and I too hung onto the idea that we could reschedule."
