FORMER Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has suffered a nightmare start at new club Basaksehir. He was on the receiving end of a 7-1 thumping in his first appearance for their reserve team. Ozil , 33, joined the Turkish side in July after an 18-month spell with rivals Fenerbahce. The ex-Germany international had his contract torn up despite scoring nine goals in 37 appearances after a move from Arsenal in January 2021. And Ozil is now hoping to rebuild his career at Basaksehir, who finished fourth in last season’s Super Lig - eight points off second-place Fenerbahce. In a bid to get his match fitness up, Basaksehir selected Ozil for Wednesday’s reserve team clash against visitors Kasimpasa. Arsenal have scheduled a new round of talks with Gabriel Jesus as they attempt to position themselves at the front of the queue for the Manchester City forward. Jesus is Arsenal’s top summer target to replace Alexandre Lacazette, who is rejoining Lyon. But Mikel Arteta's side face competition with Tottenham Hotspur keeping an eye on the Brazilian and Real Madrid also credited with an interest. Arsenal, though, believe they have currently demonstrated the strongest interest in Jesus and are preparing to reiterate their determination to land him during a latest round of talks. Arsenal are among the clubs who are considering a move for Leeds United winger Raphinha this summer, Telegraph Sport understands. Raphinha has been one of the most exciting wingers in the Premier League over the last two seasons and is expected to leave Elland Road in the coming weeks. Barcelona have long been regarded as the most likely destination for the Brazilian but their financial difficulties could prove problematic as they compete with Premier League clubs for his signature. Arsenal are hoping the £34 million signing of Fabio Vieira will help them land another of their main transfer targets , Raphinha, this summer. Vieira and Raphinha are represented by the same agency, Gestifute, which is run by super-agent Jorge Mendes, and the smoothness of the negotiation to sign Vieira from Porto is regarded as a positive. It is expected that Leeds United will demand a fee of £50m for Raphinha although they are yet to receive any offers and are insisting their priority – with Manchester City strongly interested in Kalvin Phillips – is to sign players rather than sell them after narrowly avoiding relegation from the Premier League. Chelsea are on the brink of clinching a £55million deal to sign Raphinha from Leeds United and landing a significant blow on London rivals Arsenal .
