Nathan Bomey USA TODAY Published 3:35 PM EDT Mar 15, 2019 The ho-hum reaction to Tesla's new electric SUV is, oddly enough, exactly what the company needs. Tesla CEO Elon Musk delivered no surprises Thursday night when he revealed the company's brand new electric SUV, the Model Y. But for a company that needs a little less pizzazz and a little more substance to make good on its promise to become a sustainable force in the auto industry, the Model Y hit the right marks. It's essentially a crossover version of the Tesla Model 3 compact car, bearing the design hallmarks of a hatchback and sharing the same architectural platform as its car sibling. Michelle Maltais USA TODAY Published 5:01 AM EDT Mar 14, 2019 Tesla is finally putting the Y in sexy – or rather S 3 X Y — its lineup of car models. The electric car maker is unveiling its new Model Y crossover SUV at Thursday at 8 p.m. Pacific Time in Los Angeles. I would be lying if I said I didn't find it alluring. Just less than three months ago, my husband and I got our his-and-hers Model 3s for Christmas, fulfilling his dream to prove me wrong. (When he pitched the idea when the Model 3 was first announced, I told him he was kidding. It wasn't a question.) Initially an experience reserved for the … [Read more...] about Tesla Model Y unveil: Has Elon Musk satisfied this Model 3 owner?
Nathan Bomey USA TODAY Published 5:01 AM EDT Mar 14, 2019 Tesla CEO Elon Musk will unveil the automaker's newest electric vehicle at an event Thursday night in the Los Angeles area. The Model Y will make its debut as questions swirl regarding the SUV's design, tech features, exact timing and pricing. Tesla must deliver a functional interior and improved reliability to appeal to pragmatic, family-oriented compact SUV buyers, said Jessica Caldwell, an analyst at car-buying advice site Edmunds. "This is not a sports-car segment," Caldwell said. "These are not young Tesla enthusiasts thinking this is my way into a Tesla. Will it have smart packaging on the interior that will actually work for families?" Karl Brauer, executive publisher of Cox Automotive's Kelley Blue Book and Autotrader, said "the clock is ticking" for Tesla to deliver a compelling product because competitors are rapidly catching up. That makes it critical for the company to pull off the Model Y … [Read more...] about Tesla Model Y: Elon Musk to reveal newest electric vehicle, an SUV
